Long story short, I let my temper get the better of me arguing with my partner while driving and managed to scratch the paint on the rear bumper panel behind the rear driver's side pillar (just in my blind spot!) It's a noticeable enough scratch and the reflectors broken up but aside from that, it hasn't damaged the panel at all! I'm counting my lucky stars.
Looking for some recommendations as to where to go in Melbourne for repairs that won't try to rip me off (got a quote this morning for $1200 - they wanted to completely replace my tail lights on top of everything else!). I'm in Caulfield but willing to travel. Really, I'm just looking to get the scratches buffed out and paint reapplied - there's no structural issues at a glance. The reflector I can get imported and install myself according to a few UK forums...not going to pay someone to do something I can easily do myself. This is my second car, and I haven't had to have any repairs before this so if this sounds a bit noob-y, you now know why. On top of that, my excess is $1150 because I'm still under 24 by a few months >_> Unless $1200 is actually reasonable in this scenario? Advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Show us a photo of the damage, if you can.

Ah sorry, just got back from work.
I noticed the bumper is a bit dislodged today whereas it wasn't yesterday which might explain why they included a brand new bumper in the quote... let me know what you think: http://i40.tinypic.com/162476o.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2ce5i80.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/426ty.jpg http://i41.tinypic.com/qmx500.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/52ndbp.jpg Thanks for your input EDIT: Holy crap, they were huge! my mum reversed into my in the drive way one night and I thought the same thing.. when it was repaired under insurance they had to replace the entire rear bumper as there is a 'crumple zone' in there, that causes the supports for the bumper to collapse... something to think about...

Surely getting a brand new tail panel painted and fitted isnt gunna cost $1200. Hmmm I've found that alot of places that do heaps of insurance work, dont care if they dont get little jobs.
Make sure you go to a few different places tomorrow |

If you can travel ... Surrey Panelcare, in Canterbury Road Surrey Hills. Always happy to do small jobs, use second hand parts etc. if you want them to. Nothing too much trouble, and their prices very reasonable, despite the location.
Avoid any major insurance smash repairers, they won't be interested at all in smaller jobs. You could also try AAA Body Works in Oakleigh, they are excellent but might be too pricey.
