I was thinking the other night as a future project a XR6 turbo motor would be great in a mk2 escort i have a RS2000 was planing to turbo the 2.0l one day when i have spare cash but then i thought what about a XR6 turbo motor is it possible to do this conversion? i know i will need to change breaks, brace the chassi, get a 9" and so on but i mainly want to know if it can be done.

it would be a big task, you would have to change the firewall as the engine is too long to fit in the engine bay.
i roughly measured up my esky for something similar, you'd be better off putting a V6 in.

I know of one fitted to a mk1 capri and its registered. It would fit if the firewall was cut. Unfortunately registration reqirements now in most states prohibit cutting of firewall and using an engine over two litres. So two litre turbo is about it.

Cant see the point of putting a clevo into an eski, way too heavy and with modern tech good hp can be had from much lighter and legal sized motors.

depends if you want to wait for it to boost up or not. i cant say have ever taken anyone for a drive that has said it would be better if it was a efi/turb.
at just over 1000kgs and 550 hp. with the motor jearward of the front crossmember its weight is 53% on the front and 47% rear its handling isnt compromised. Can do mallala in 1.22 and i get the sound of a v8 . what more could you want!

How long ago did you get that legally engineered Starlightblue?
The only way to do that now would be a IVC, you must have cut a fair amount of the firewall to get the clevo behind the Xmember area... how big are the footwell's? |

the car was engineered a long time ago, originally in nsw and about 15 years ago in SA. your right, i cant wear big boots as there isnt much in the way of foot space left. but it all works really good.

the best i got out of the registered car was a 9.76 running a 349 windsor and powerglide, that engine is now in the race car and has gone 5.95 on the 1/8 which should be about a 9.4, the road car now has a 5.0 with a mild cam and a c10 both cars have 9" diffs, the best part of the older enginers cert is mines legal with 15 x 12 on the rear and 15x4 on the front passed the roadworthy with them when i got it 8yrs ago.

Seriously folks.....how do you ever get these cars engineered and registered? I can't even get an engineer to look at my Zetec powered Escort without holding out his hand for a wad of cash.
