Will this ever happen? Factory right hand drive for Aus?
Obviously if they can cost it out in the $70 -$90 k range I would say they would sell like hot cakes. (Maybe I’m being a little cheap on my estimate but hey). Surely Ford Australia have been considering this?? |

Why would they do that when they can build a Ranger for $5,000 and sell it for $75,000.
Those figures are exaggerated, but still you get the point. |

Even if they sold a 1000 a month here (extremely unlikely) it still is a drop in the ocean compared to the 70000+ they sell a month over in the US.

Yep, they won't interfere with their cash cow by introducing more complexities into the truck plants by making some in RHD, when it would make up such a tiny % of daily production. The numbers won't be enough to justify the work getting it done.

I can see why it wouldn,t be practicle if Aust was the only market but there should be a sizable market with other countries as in South Africa, Britain and a lot of Sth East Asian countries also being RHD.

Maybe if ford decided to build them in Thailand or China. As long as they American built I doubt they would ever build them in rhd.

Why did they build a RHD Mustang but can't for F trucks? Is it just because it's a hero car, more simpler or another reason? It has me confused

The numbers would suggest it would probably work. Cars like CX9, Pajero, Patrol etc are primarily made in RHD for pretty much Australia, and would probably be far less profitable and sell in lesser numbers than a factory RHD F150.
The issue facing GM and Ford is the sheer volume of pickups they sell in LHD. A GM exec had a good term for it why they don’t build RHD Silverados, and he called it ‘scar tissue’. All Silverados would have to have some adjustment or carry some extra welding/stamping or hole punching to accomodate factory right hand drive units on the assembly line. When you are selling 60,000 trucks a month even a slight design or engineering accomodation for right hand drive, will definately add up. |

They couldn't sell enough to keep the Ford execs happy last time, even when they where assembled here, why does anyone think things are any different now......?

When they stopped producing Falcons and Territories, Ford could have keep the Plant for doing what is happening now with the RAM to convert F Series, Explorers and Expeditions.
There are a lot of Sales to be pinched from Toyota who laugh at everyone else every month. At the end of the day it seems a profit could be made. RAM have added more shifts to keep up with demand.

They must have some vested interest because Ford Australia legally intervened when Performax International tried to strike a fleet deal with Ford USA:
