Default Exhaust Leak!

Does anyone know if their is a gasket between the extractors on a AUII XR8 and the block. Do I just have to tighten the bolts or is it better to replace the gasket if it has one?

Yes, there is a gasket. It may have broken, but it may just be a loose bolt or two. Tighten the manifold bolts first, and if that doesn't fix it, then replace the gasket. Have fun on passengers side - there's not much room there!

I received this response from mac72s today:

Thanks again

The lesson here is to check all bolts first (as I also learnt the hard way).

I decided to change the gasket anyway. What a ***** of a job. There was one bolt stuck between the aircon compressor which took some twisting to come out. It then took 2 hours to try and get back in.

So the moral of the story is, don't do it if you don't have to or get somebody else to do it!

With regards to the I6, do you have to loosen a few bolts first to take off the heat shield to tighten the other (lower) manifold bolts?

Have you done this on the 6 JC?

Yes there is from memory 4 bolts that hold this cover on, 2 that bolt on on the bottom of the cover are just holding it on from rattling and the other 2 at the top go through the manifold into the head. I think its port 1 and port 4 from memory.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'll give it a look on the weekend hopefully.

I've been so, so busy each weekend, that tweaking and tinkering has all but stopped.

I did get to most of the SR with a clay bar the other weekend though. Good bit of kit that claybar!
