Got one. Didn't hurt at all. But non painful part, upper arm. I believe if you get close to nerve centre/bone is painful.

mate every body takes it different, no 2 tattooes feel the same, even one side of the body to the other can feel different, as for pain stay away from your stomach.

"Who" did the tattoing for you. Some artists arent exactly gentle with the gun whilst others are. "Where" you had to tat done. Softer the skin the more uncomfortable it will be eg inside of upper leg or inside of arm. Around bones can become uncomfortable as well. "When" to get a tat today is a lot different to what it was like to get one say 10 - 20 - 30 etc years ago. So if you hear an old bloke say "Yeah it bloody hurt alright" chances are his did. Having said that I have 2 rather large peices, one on each arm. Neither of them hurt however the left arm did become uncomfortable as it was 9hrs in one go. What I have always described what it sorta feels like. Those electric lighters that we all used to pull apart at school and zap everyone else with. Yeah that but a little bit more.

One way to ease pain is to drink plenty of water beforehand, stay off the booze the night before, and suck on chuppa chups while it's being done.

Upper arm is one of the least painful places though. When it starts to wrap around the spongy bits under your arm, or up onto your shoulder onto the bone, then it gets a little more painful.

I got both my outer biceps done in '01, grey wash 'reaper' on the left, coloured koi carp on the right.(Dave Andrews, Inkspot, Ballarat) Got a small honourary tattoo on the inside of left bicep, rememberance for a murdered friend.(Bags, South East Professional tattooing and body piercing, Mt Gambier) And i got my new custom tatt started last tuesday, top half of back. Took 3 hours to do the outline.(Also Bag's) You know its good when the tattoist dances and jumps around saying 'i can't wait to get colour in this', rubbing his hands gleefully and getting the others from their cubicles to have a looky!!
The arms really fukken hurt me, i went a tad green, especially on the points of shoulders, my neck was convulsing...lol.. I'd have them on the back anyday, didn't really bother me, just the base of neck, a tender spot. I was back in there on friday gone, when the wife was getting some added to her arm, sitting back in there comfy couch..a young bloke and his hotty missus were waiting to get done and were talking amongst themselves, his missus was asking him he was nervous and scared, i giggled to myself and asked him if it was first...'yep' he replys with a wimsy smile..."ok, look mate i'll tell you now, it only hurts while they're doing it"..laughed me ИИИИ off, he looked a little shocked with that, his missus laughed. And going by the "Oh ИИИИs' and "ARRR THAT HURTS" he yelled a few times, i don't think he liked the point of the needle. I was outside having a ciggie when he left, i asked him how he went with a grin. "mate u wern't joikin' about it hurting we you" he replied. He was so pale...LMAO. |

I have got a fair few on my body and I would say the worse I have come across was in the arm pit and on the elbow.
But I could also think of worse places to get them done...

What does the writting mean?
Have you looked into the artists work/portfolio? I have 3 tattoo's. 1 is quite large and on my hip and the other 2 are small symbols (treble & bass clefs) on my spine. I found that none of them hurt badly. I felt a slight annoying pain, but it did not bother me at all. After 1.3hours it did start to feel very tender. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy your first experience with the tattoo gun!

I've got one on the outside of my lower right leg. It's the only one I've got so far (can be seen in the 'Show us ya tats' thread) and when the bloke first started it, the initial shock was not what I expected. It hurt in the sense that it felt like a very sharp razor blade just splitting the skin. It didn't hurt anywhere near what people had led me to believe though, so that was good. It's sharp enough to cut through the skin without using pressure, so you don't have to fight with someone cutting with force.
After the first couple of lines and the initial shock, it was fine. It's just a cutting feeling, but cutting with a sharp tip, so it's smooth. After going over the same areas a couple of times, it begins to hurt a bit more. Feels like scratching at fresh gravel rash. My sitting took three hours, and there's a couple of areas that were 'attacked' six times for different colours/shading. Once the gun is taken away from the skin though, it immediately stops any pain you may have felt while the job was actually being done. If it hurts too much, ask the tattooist to stop. Have a break for a couple of seconds, then go again. It's very bearable, just don't push yourself too hard. My tat took three hours. My first one, done in one sitting. After two hours, it began to suck. At the end of the job, it hurt a lot. But as soon as I stood up it was fine. And I was so glad I sat there and put up with it because I'm very happy with the job that was done.
