I don't know how you're trying to do it, but it's easier to unbolt the lower arm and change the balljoints on a bench.

When we were doing mine, we had the lower arm removed and tried to bash in out with a hammer.......with no luck. Ended up taking it to pedders and getting them to remove the old ones and put the new ones in. They are meant to be pressed out so it's and absolute ИИИИИИ to hammer them out yourself. Now that i remember we even took a sledge hammer to it with out so much as budging it. Have fun ;)

I think it was like $30 or something for labour (that's pressing the old ones out and putting new ones in). I got my ball joints from repco but stuffed if i can remember how much they were....

Bashed mine out with a hammer and bashed the new one in with a hammer. Used an old socket and an extension as well. Mind you it took me ages. Better of going to a suspensi0n place.
