I've got a 1997 EL Fairmont Wagon (see sig)
When I got it roadworthied at christmas time, I had the existing four rotor's machined, due to shudder. I also fitted new Bendix CT pads all round, and did a mini overhaul of the calipers, along with a full brake line flush. (see sig thread for pics) The vehicle was good for the first 10,000km (if not a little slow to pull up). Since we've had the wet weather here in Melbourne, the shudder has returned, quite badly. Under light to medium braking, the front end vibrates something chronic. Under firm braking, the shudder disappears, but the car is slow to pull up in my opinion. When the shudder is happening, the steering wheel shakes lightly, and the brake pedal pulsates very lightly. I had a set of DBA4132 rotors to fit on the car, but elected not to put them on at christmas time. I'm thinking now may be the time to fit them, but I never purchased pads to suit. The DBA rep recommended a Bendix SRT pad, or Ferodo DS pad. What would be the best pad for the 4000 series rotors, and am I going down the right path brake wise, with this vehicle? The vehicle is used in stop/start traffic. It is not and will never be used in any motorsport events. Cheers, David

Hi Matt,
thanks for the reply. Do you have those Ferodo DS pads?........... xx1108? The DBA rep, said that they're only importing Ferodo pads from 2003 upwards.

What would you recommend, if I can't get a Ferodo DS pad, for an EL Falcon?
The Bendix rep recommended a set of Ultimates, for the 4000series rotors, but warned of excessive brake dust. He also suggested the HD pad, with less dust, but said that it would not have the stopping power of the Ultimate range. What are my options?

Sparky, I have Ultimates on the front of my BA Falcon and I can say that they do make you stop. I guess you have to ask yourself whats important, being able to stop or having to clean a bit of dust off your wheels every couple of weeks. I went the ability to stop route and the ultimates have proven to be a massive performance gain over OE pads (I have DBA rotors but just street series).

What about EBC pads? Red or Green?
Are they suitable for 4000 series rotors? Where do the EBC pads fit into the scale, when compared with Bendix Ultimates? Lets just say the Ultimates are abetter match than the ebc pads.

How about some sort of QFM pads?
Are they better than the Bendix Ultimates, for use with dba4000 rotors? People mention QFM pads quite often on the ford forums.

The QFM HPX brake pads are very popular and cost about $80 a set.
