Hi All,
Well I have signed up for a Silver LS Zetec demonstrator exactly like Forest Bears. I pick it up on Saturday and will post some photos also. As usual the dealer is offering paint and rust protection packages at " Special " prices which I will ignore but what did interest me is the " Sound Deadening " pack which , quote " is a fibre reinforced product applied to the underbody of the car to reduce road noise and protect the underside . Benefits are:- Reduce road noise by up to 60 %, tyre whine and vibration Insulation against extreme temperatures Takes load off air con - more effiecient cooling and heating Quieter more comfortable driving Lifetime Guarantee. Total cost $475. " Considering that the Mazda 3 , Focus platform is known for it's tyre noise problems do you think this is worth the $$ or is it more of a con ?. I love our new Zetec but I have to admit the road noise took a little to get use to. To be honest it's better than what most small cars have and now I hardly even notice it. If you are the type of person that hates road noise from tyres etc it maybe worth it. If it doesn't really bother you save your money for the tint!

Even with Yokohama Tyres on ours (Zetec) Rims its a bit noisy. However ive been in a Zetec with the Factory Goodyears and they were even more noisy.
Personally i wouldnt bother with the sound deadening as i wouldnt want them spray tar under my car, u wouldnt know what they will get it all over. Do what CDAA said, put tint on it. |

Congratulations. Its a good car even though I've got troubles with it. The whole exhaust system needs to be replaced on mine. I should get it back on Thursday. It done 130km when engine warning light came on.
As for sound deadening stuff, I wouldn't go for it myself. I got a thing about adding needless weight to the car. Its as loud as any other car out there. |

Just as a side note , I was getting prices on window tinting today and saw that some companies also offer exactly the same packages at much cheaper prices . For example I was quoted $225 for the underbody sound deadening pack compared to $485 from Ford. :togo:

Agree. It's only annoying because the rest of the car is so refined. Anyway, my experience with Goodyears is that they are invariably noisier than many others, so I look forward to one day trying something better. |
