Default How old were you when you moved out of home..?

Call me a curious cat...

I'm 21 at the moment and still live with my parents.

I'm starting a Plumbing apprenticeship at the end of the year and they are more than happy for me to live at home until I finish my apprenticeship and can pay for a place of my own. During that time it's all about saving and learning. They don't ask for rent, but ask that I help out with the cooking, cleaning, washing etc.

I feel I have it pretty good, so I'm curious as to where other people are at with there lives.

How old were you when you moved out of your parents place?
Do you still live with your parents? How old are you?

Maybe your a parent with kids who have moved out already, how old were they? Do they still live at home?

...

I am 22 and still living at home. No plans to move out yet. Finish my course end of next year. Pretty much will only have to pay board when I am earning income full time. I do however, help out around the place outside and inside.

I moved out of home when I was 19 for 9 months for a job, then came home until I was 23, moved out until I was 24 to live with a girl I have little respect for now, then moved out when I when I got married to my wife been out of home ever since (this time it stuck)

my parrents were / are pretty good and I had to pull my weight and kick the can for board but it wouldnt have covered the cost of my own place

I was living at home until I was 30, managed to pay CASH outright for my 1st house. It's hard to save up if you pay rent.

I moved out when I was 18 to go to uni...then moved interstate at 21, brought a house at 25...sold it when I was 27 and now I have moved state and I am home again until next year when I finish uni...LOL

Honestly, dont let anyone knock ya for it, I could go and rent now no worries but Id rather not pee $300 per week away in rent...ive got my house deposit ready for when I leave so I just need to keep the next job for 6 months or whatever it is and done.

IMO as long as your saving and not blowing your money its all good.

I was 22 when I moved out. During that time I was paying $50 board, and helping the folks on a weekend. (Farmwork)

Both of them are now retired, and whilst I am now in a good career and earning decent money, I still try and help them out a bit. Groceries, dinner, etc. Seems the least I can do.

Still go out home every Sunday for Mums home-cooked meals though

18 when I moved onto Bruny Island, lived in a two room humpy, outside shower and long drop toilet. 10m away from the door was a cliff face falling away into the Southern Ocean.

Paid $30 bucks a week rent, did the place up as part of the agreement, and kept the rats and mice out. And the spiders.

Earned $400 per fortnight as a trainee, plus $30 per week living away allowance, and some TA when I had to travel up North.

Arrrrrr, they were the days. On my own, in a remote spot, with no one around other than my dog, my rifles, and fishing gear. Some of the best times of my life on that farm.

When I'm on my death bed, I'll recall that couple years of my life very very fondly.

I had just turned 18. But I spent the next 2 or 3 years moving back and forth between rentals, boarding, share houses and home. Wasn't till 1994 when I left the state. Moved back once again at 29 (1999) when I came back from interstate. Stayed for 6 months until we sold our house and bought another.

I'm 24 and still @ home, pay board and I'm pretty sure my folks enjoy having me around.

I did try and move out with my then girlfriend when I was 22, and it just went sour, I just wasn't ready to move out to be honest.

I'm starting to get the bug of wanting to move out, so am making big headway in to getting rid of my debt (car loan) then want to look for a place.

(out of the frying pan and in to the fire debt wise!)

I had just turned 18 when I left home, moved down to Melbourne for uni. 21 now, would be mortified to still be at home.

I moved out when I was 25. Was only working part time for the first couple of years after finishing uni at 22 so it was about the earliest I could afford to go out on my own.

I couldn't stand living with my parents again, not that I have a bad relationship with them, just that I'm used to going it on my own. Does make it hard to save the deposit to buy that first home, but I'm nearly there 7 years later lol. (actually I only started saving for a house deposit a year ago)

Moved overseas at 27 and moved back in with the olds when I came back to Australia so I could save for my own house. There was no other way for me really. Moved into the house I bought at 30.

I was 15 1/2yo when i left home.

Had an abusive father and realised my mother was only with him for my sake, so when yr 10 finished i was gone within 24hrs.

I took off to the country where my brother inlaw was working as he said there was plenty of work on offer.
The second day i was there i met this amazing girl whom i started dating, 20 years later were married with 3 great kids and another due in November.

It was tough the first year as not only did i struggle financially, but it was an emotional rollercoaster topped off by my oldies getting divorced and selling the family farm, That really made it final for me.

I was in and out between 19 and 21 years old as I travelled this great nation a fair bit when I was younger... But at 22 I was out for good to live with my then girlfriend. I've been back once or twice but thats only lasted 2 or 3 days between places.

27 Now, and living 3 states away with my fiance' (or wife if you read this in 25 days time), and currently saving for a house. My only advice to those contemplating leaving home is to question whether or not you really need to; it would be sooooo much easier saving a deposit for a house without the need to pay 370pw in rent!
