The scheme was 60c per kilowatt/hr produced until December 31, 2016.
After long thought and consideration I decided to get solar panels put on our house last year, thinking they would pay themselves off within two years at 60c a kilowatt. NOW we have a new government they are reducing it to 40c a kilowatt/hr. I have been sucked in big time and not happy! End of rant. |

It has not changed to 40c kw/h. At the moment it is all speculation. Although i wouldnt be surprised at anything the political scumbags come up with.

Now maybe some of my tax money can go to some other place instead of paying for your solar panels. The only scam was that the last government brought it in at all, it was always going to be a disaster and the is why labor dropped the rebate back to 20c at the end of last year. So think yourself lucky that you are getting 40c |

Seems in the fed budget that the solar panel rebate has been dropped as well.

i'm glad i got my panels for cheap, should have them paid off this year..
so much for the guarantee of 60c for the 6 or 7 years. wonder how many people will be throwing solar systems on when there is now rebate/incentive - and what will happen to all the solar shops that popped up over the last few years

That is quite reasonable and although it affected new connections at least people knew that they would only get the lower rate. What this change (if it happens) is that it ill change *EXISTING* connections and reduce the rate. The part that is morally wrong is that most of those that made the decision to connect based their choice on the projected income that was "government guaranteed" until 2016. So from a business point of view the offer was "make this investment and the Government will repay you at this rate for this time" however now that you have made this investment the payment is reneged. Hardly a fair or ethical form of behaviour from any government.

The way the letter my brother and my parents both got, said that they would still get the 60c kW/h even after the change, I didn't get one as i didn't have my house at the time to install the panels.
