Default Dick Johnson tuned Ford Falcon 600kw GT-F Police Car

In combination with this thread

Dick Johnson tunes a Ford Falcon GT-F,
Australia’s most powerful police car

IT has more power than any of the V8 Supercars at this year’s Bathurst 1000.
It can detect stolen cars in milliseconds, and spot speeding drivers from up to a kilometre away.
It’s not a bird, it’s not a plane. It’s Australia’s most powerful — and most technically advanced — police car

The NSW highway patrol have taken delivery of one of the last ever Ford Falcon GT sedans — which, in a one-off special, has a supercharged V8 engine tuned by racing legend Dick Johnson to a staggering 800 horsepower, or 600 kilowatts in modern terms.

Not only does this police car’s power eclipse the V8 Supercars on the grid at next weekend’s Bathurst 1000 (which each have about 600 horsepower or 450 kilowatts) it has almost twice as much grunt as a standard Ford Falcon GT.

FAST FACTS: Ford Falcon GT-F: most powerful police car ever
* Supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine
* Power: 600 kilowatts in modern measurements or 800 horsepower in old-school numbers (up from 351kW or 470hp)
* In modern terms, the Falcon GT-F’s power has increased from the standard output of 351kW to 600kW, hence the ‘600’ plaque next to Dick Johnson’s name under the bonnet.
* Racing grade Brembo brakes front and rear
* Dunlop high-performance tyres (wider at the rear than at the front to improve grip)
Technology: how fast are you going now?
* On-board tablet computer to check licence status, outstanding warrants, photo ID the driver (mobile fingerprint technology being rolled out)
* Front and rear cameras record non-stop footage to a fireproof and tamperproof safe in the boot
* These two cameras can beam live images to the police operations room to monitor critical incidents (other cars will eventually be upgraded)
* Three automatic numberplate recognition cameras can detect unregistered cars — and cars likely to be driven by wanted or banned drivers — day or night
* Drug testing equipment joins the latest breath test units with GPS so police can track where the high alcohol readings are, and target those areas
* Digital encrypted radio; earlier police radio systems could be heard by scanners bought cheaply at electronics stores, today’s radio network is more secure
* Long range radar can detect speeding vehicles up to 1 kilometre away on the open road
* Handheld laser units can pinpoint individual cars in traffic, zooming in on an area the size of a numberplate. The latest laser unit also records vision for evidence in court to prove the police stopped the right car
* New LED blue and red emergency lights are brighter than before and have complete 360 degree coverage to be easier to spot in intersections; more powerful ‘take-down’ lights beam directly into the back windows of cars stopped by police

No doubt it passes all ADR's and its various performance modifications get a clean bill of health from department of transport inspectors. As for the factory warranty, can't have your cake and eat it too.

Awesome GT-F is awesome. However they score no points with me in the manner they have upped the fear and intimidation stakes.

What's your point? It would be engineered the same as any road legal modified car.
If you're genuinely concerned, write a letter!

The average Joe has to comply to the letter of the law, then gets unwanted attention, subjected to scrutiny and for all their time, money and effort can get a nasty sticker on their windscreen.

Meanwhile the boys in blue, using OUR money prance around in a 600KW GT F.

If it's good enough for them, then why not the general community?

I think people should write to the police commissioner seeking an explanation of where our tax dollars are being spent and why! Obviously reminding the police commissioner that his department now endorses modifications.

Oh, and thanks for your comment.

I say good on them. Policing is such a thankless job, being able to "prance" around as you put it- is just one of the perks of the job.

It is engineered, the same as those of us "average Joes" with modified road legal cars, get over it.
It IS good enough for the general community.
The car, and others before it, is a part of a road safety strategy to break down the barriers between the average Joe and the police.
But I'm sure the police commissioner is eagerly awaiting your letter that you will never write.

The police having cars like this modded GT-F and that Porsche actually raises the barriers even higher and consolidates the us vs them nindset. Most see such cars (and the tech within) as further evidence of the police being predatory in their behaviour and not about public safety.

Would be interesting if it is involved in a fatal accident, an insurance company would tear them a new a-hole with their "engineered" "approved" "road safety awareness car"

Maybe you can help me understand why they need 600KW for road safety?

I can't think of a situation where a highway patrol officer wouldn't need 800hp to carry out their duties. As long as it fines enough people the pay for the next one then its a good investment.

I don't think there is really any situation where most of us need a daily pushing 300rwkw + though either?

I remember on Top Gear where they went to America and the cops dragged raced anyone who was willing on the quarter in an attempt to stamp out hooning on the streets. I think they called it beat the heat.....Or beat the meat as jeremy called it

Regardless of what ever spin you choose to believe fact is 3 SS/XR6 Turbo's would of had 3 times as much impact policing the road as 1 GTF. Police are always understaffed, I wonder why.

I'm not having a go at the Police just the idiotic bureaucrats that waste their funding. I couldn't think of anything worse then driving around in a very indiscrete 600kw GT that you can't abuse. It'd be torture.

It's a promotional car. It has already received a crap load of publicity, therefore has most likely achieved their aim.
Why would any insurance company baulk at a claim if it is engineered and they declare their modifications (the same as any member of the public). I'd be more worried about the publics reaction if such a car was involved in a fatality whilst being driving in rage (ie a chase).

When you do write your letter, maybe you can ask what it cost the taxpayer (specificity the NSW Centre for Road Safety )? I would hazard a guess it was heavy subsidised by Ford/FPV/DJR/Herrod.

Yeah they have "Beat the Heat" in Australia too. Usually on Friday night off street drag meets. Used to encourage racing on the strip but off the street.

Should see what this GT-F can do down the quarter.

It's a great PR exercise that's for sure. I'd like to see it do lap of Bathurst with the Police 911 Carrera before the race. I wonder which would win

Just proves the point that they have their own law. I would be very surprised if this thing passed a full emissions test.

I wonder how much power it actually made? Handing someone a car with 480rwkw and stock dunlops would end in a cloud of smoke! ;)
Great publicity for all involved tho.

Well from what I see around I believe most of these type of cars are paid for in kind by the manufacturers and in this case Herrods and DJR so I have no problem with the money side of things. Same goes for the engineering etc. As for it blowing V8 Supercar away then PFFFFTTT, maybe off the line but thats where it would end. A 2.06 around the mountain, lol.
