A friend of mine bought a new Escape Titanium, last week. It died at the traffic lights, within a week, . No lights on dash, key wouldn't turn motor over. Called Ford Roadside Assist " cannt help until paperwork arrives from dealer. Car gets trucked to dealer. On investigation a cable had fallen off a battery terminal. Further investigation found the pre-delivery wasn't done. Pre-delivery report is blank.
Service Manager said "people will be spoken too" Service Dept did the pre-delivery. Provided a loan car. and will pay the cost of the tow truck. She is happy with how the Service Dept handled the problem. The Escape is a nice looking vehicle. But Tech Pack should be standard on the Titanium.

No I bring it up to show that dealer service depts can do the right the thing by the buyer. Too many stories on service depts not looking after customers. My Captiva has done 50k/kms in 26 months. No issues . Towing a 1.9tonne caravan would put a strain on chassis and engine driveline. Have you seen how many CAPTIVAS are on the road? Plenty.

Fordman1. Value for the money. My LTZ diesel is very well equipped for $36,990 drive away. There are often reports of how expensive cars are in OZ.

Personally, I couldn't say that I would consider any Craptiva to be value for money. However, they are cheap.

Well done you’ve bought the cheap car that suits your needs. Some people prefer something with “less crappiness” and “better quality” for more money. |

Two of my sister-in-laws have Captivas, one from new.
Both have had to replace turbos at $4000+. Not so cheap...

The only answer to this is that the Ford was overpriced that's why it broke.

Very misleading thread title. Realistically should have been. Sheila stopped at lights couldn't find the bonnet latch.

Yes, I don't think "breaks down" is the correct term to use in this situation. Should have been "dealership stuffs up the pre-delivery"

Did the vehicle have any aftermarket electrical accessories fitted that would have the battery terminal left loose during fitment?
Know for a fact that when they fit the battery in the plant, the terminal is torqued up with a torque wrench that is monitored, if that torque wrench is not used or correct torque reached, then an alarm sounds and the production line stops, no chance it was left loose at plant. Possible that a flat battery replaced or touched between the plant, transit to port, on the boat, Aus Port or dealership and left loose that way. But most common is at the dealership or during accessory installation. |

GTLEGEND Service Department said "batteries are disconnected during transit. It wasn't replaced properly on delivery." don't know if this is true or not.

Ahh yes, Ford use CEVA logistics for transport, if the vehicle was stored at one of their holding yards and did not go to the dealer straight from the port, then yes they disconnect all batteries in their yard whilst in storage. So that could be the root cause of the issue, but in saying that dealer should have checked it as it is on the PD check sheet!

yes, a bit of service can go a LONG way to smoothing over the relationship.

This is a sign for your friend to look elsewhere to get the car serviced. Any dealership that makes a careless and stupid mistakes like that, don't deserve one's business. |

I imagine this would have been quite distressing for the owner, and really should not happen. Unfortunately it is true that some dealers take no pride in what they do, and don't give a rat's once they have your money. It's also pretty poor form on the part of breakdown service. I really dislike those who put bureaucracy above common sense. As for the other topic of discussion, its almost pointless. Nobody likes to admit that they bought a sub-standard article just because it was cheap, but there is a market for a wide-range of products to suit everyone's budget. I will simply make the following observations: 1) There is a reason the Daewoo brand disappeared. 2) Sticking on a Holden badge has never improved anything. |

Thread title should be ‘Ford dealer forgets to tighten cable on battery and new vehicle stops within a week of delivery’
God help a Escape buyer researching in Google coming up with that thread title it’s suitable for that increasingly tabloid rag news.com.au

Assuming any of that is true, what does any of that have to do with following a check list?

Wow, what a lemon.
There needs to be a national recall of all Ford vehicles in case any others have this catastrophic 'loose battery cable'. I mean, it's a Ford. They all do that. |

We had a beauty like this except it was a boat. My brother and I had bought a beautiful SeaRay many years back. We were sitting on the boat at the Spit in middle harbour when the salesman who had been looking after us since the start said ‘start her up’. Wouldn’t start. Three times and nothing. He says to us both ‘I had her fired up this morning’!!!
Said this to us twice. He makes a call and a mechanic comes over and said they had put fuel in her but they hadn’t primed the system. The salesman was the greasiest salesman I’d ever met, an absolute tool, the sort who’d sell his mother if he could make a dollar and I never liked him from day 1. With that I said to him ‘had her goin this mornin did ya’ and walked off shaking my head. |
