A Nintendo Wii Game console that is. It's the new Nintendo system to compete with the XBox 360 and PlayStation 3, but it has a full motion sensitive controller shaped like a TV remote. In a baseball game you swing it like a bat, in a fishing game you move it like a fishing rod etc...
For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, see for yourself at wii.com. It is released here in Australia on December 7, and can play the enitre Nintendo games catalogue, as well as various Sega games etc... I'm going to get one for sure, anyone else getting one?

Depends on how much it is. I'm not much of a console player as I've never had one. Closest thing I had was a PSP which got stolen from my apartment 3 months after I bought it. Might be fun to get it IF its not too expensive.

Yep I will be picking mine up at launch when they arrive this december.
Definetly looks to be a very interesting and pleasant change to next generation gaming. However I do have one gripe with the system and that is its raw power, its not even half as powerful as an Xbox 360 or PS3 and as a result, Wii games will never look anywhere near as polished or detailed as the other consoles. The controller is an awesome concept though and no doubt its main selling point however, I dont think Nintendo thought further enough ahead as this console is supposed to last them till atleast 2010. Its graphics are already dated and pale in comparison to whats even on the Xbox 360 at the moment so in time it will only get worse. Theres also only so much fun to be had with the Wii remote controller, I suspect though that after lengthy periods of gaming you will become quite tiresome from the physical strain the controller will indeed place on you. Anyway, anybody interested in the new Nintendo console I suggest you check out this Aussie Wii site for all info, games, pics, etc on the console or Nintendo in general. http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/ |

I too have thought about it. I really like the concept of that movement sensing controller.
Plus I have young kids and Nintendo seems to have a far superior range of games for that age group you may agree (plus I can see my 4 year old cutting sick with that controller!). However PS3 is coming in March of next year. Gonna retail for close to a grand - theres $400 if I dont buy a Wii straight towards a PS3 (with HD DVD - Wii doesnt offer anything like that). What an awesome time for home gaming though huh!!! |

Ive never liked Nintendo enough to buy one, but the new controller sounds great.
I really want a PS3, but cant justify ~$1000 just yet, other priorities, my PS2 is still serving me well.

Damm thats cheap! Well cheaper than Xbox 360 at least. But I am not up to scratch as to how they compare against each other.
I will stick to my standard Xbox for now! :P Cheers Darran

Zelda will be great with the controller. Looking forward to the Tony Hawk and ExciteTruck games with full motion control as well.

will the nintendo still cater for the 8yr old market with donkey kong and mario or will they finally release some 'other' genre games? dont get me wrong some of those games are fun but who wants to be mario or some pokemon or other cartoon character all the time.

yep thats how i feel on this entire nintendo thing,i dont want to be stuck playing, mario golf, mario tennis, mario kart, mario world etc, the average gamer who buys games are over 22 ( last time i heard ,could be 25 now ), nintendo done this with the gamecube, got the resident evil games to appeal to the older generation, but it didnt work and the sales were disasterious, dont get me wrong, zelda, some mario games are fun,but its the same old same old, look at ps2 and xbox, games in every genre,i really think nintendo is still around due to their handheld market, pokemon+gameboy/DS = huge sales, but, i will buy the wii, it will be the cheapest, and i personally think it looks better than ps3 and 360. Nintendo just need a good racing sim exclusive for them , like sony has gran turismo 4 and microsoft has forza. |

They just had a demo on NBC USA Today and they were playing the tennis one. The 2 presenters looked retarded at it but it looks like the controller could add a huge amount of depth to gameplay.
Personally, I think for novelty/party games it would be awesome fun to grab a carton and a few mates and start swingin away. But to sit down and play a game like Zelda or Mario with 60+ hours of gameplay, I think the whole idea would get annoying. It's a daring move and I like the concept. |

I'm probably going to get Zelda and Red Steel at first, and probably Tony Hawk or Call of Duty later.

Nintendo intentionally went more for a new take on gaming rather than just upping the graphics capabilities (not that I mind that, I do own a 360 and love the realism of some of the games, particularly PGR3). Red Steel looks like it will make good use of the controller and, like Call of Duty, will appeal to the older demographic.

I'm guessing it may take some time getting used to this new controller, aiming it like a gun and moving it like a sword, after so many years using ordinary controllers... can't wait to try it out though. Roll on December 7 !

The weakness with the Wii is the graphics, the specifications of the Wii is similar to the original xbox (729mhz operating speed, and 243mhz graphics. Compared with 733mhz and 250mhz for xbox. Tho Wii will supposedly have slightly better graphics due to new technology allowing more to be put into its chips, plus numbers dont usually mean a thing) And if you think the controller will set it apart... what stops microsoft and sony in offering a similar controller with their consoles, if the controller is a success? Then they'll have similar innovative games with the Wii and have better graphics at the same time. In the end I wish the best for nintendo, but im slightly tilting to the 360 due to games.
