Considering selling my 1978 Escort. Wanting to get an approximate idea of what I can ask for. It's a 2 dr 1600 model. New engine installed about 12 months ago, spoiler kit from rally pack.

A 2dr in good condition is worth $1800-$2000 easy. A good engine is a bonus, but most people prefer a 2lt over a 1600. If your car has round headlights, thats also a bonus. If it was a pre-pollution 1975-76 model, it would be worth more again.
Good condition coupes are getting rare, so if you can afford to hang onto it for a year are so, I'd expect its value to go around the $3000 mark. Might seem a bit unrealistic, but I've been following the price of small Fords for a few years and Capris and RS model Escorts have skyrocketted in value in the last 5 years. Coupes are the next best thing and a prime motor sport fodder as they are cheap compared to Euro sedans like BMWs, Alfas and Porkers. More and more are ending up in historic racing. |

Sorry to go off topic. whooligan, the '75-early '76 models still have ADR27 on the compliance plate, and the late '76-'80 have ADR27A on the plate. I thought the only difference between the two is that the late models with ADR27A had a charcoal canister added. All MK2's had pollution gear from factory didn't they? Or have I got it wrong?
