Hi fellow Ford people. My 1st time on.
I have an AU3 dedicated LPG. A great car BUT the transmission has a mind of its own. I can be cruising along at 100 kph or where ever and it will back shift for no good reason, or as I slow down it will back shift. It could go for weeks without a problem and then give grief all day !! I have been told by a transmission bloke that it was a common problem and it was the inhibitor switch (neutral/start swith). I replaced it with a brand new genuine part but its still the same. Anybody got any ideas ?? Cheers folks. |

Welcome to Aff Ford, what else, if possble, go to a trusted mechanic & get a ecu scan - it could be couple of things (tps?), the scan will pinpoint the problem. Also give the inhibbitor switch plug a good clean if you havent already. Have a look at this link -

I had a similar issue with my trans. A service with filter and oil change corrected the problem. I believe the issue was caused by my filter being too clogged, starving the trans of fluid. This would also explain the intermittant nature of your problem.

a common problem ?? mines never had a problem other been worked hard and getting a little soft in the changes after 200,000 +k's ,
had any electrical issues in the past ??? |

The service and filter sounds like a good place to start but !! The trans has been replace at some stage (I no this because it has a dip stick !). |

Nah, you can't fit a dip stick tube to the later model box, Different housing all together |

yes you can, the marking is on the inside of the box, it can be drilled from underneath with the pan removed

Yeah, OK... Didn't no that ! The next time I've got the pan off a late one (hope thats not too soon). I'll have look. Thanks for that mate. |
