Default Fairlane - Replacing Premium Sound Tuner

Good evening,
Need some help and some feedback! I'm wanting to change the premium sound tuner in my 99 Au series 1 fairlane to an aftermarket one so i can play cds. We went to JB hi and the guy there said that a new one won't simply plug in etc... he said that the sub won't work! so i was told that i had to also purchase a new amp as well...is this true? If i purchase a tuner with pre-out and sub woofer control wouldn't that be suffiecient? and if it is would i still be able to control the bass as i do with the stock unit?

well as little as possible... jb have single din units with 2 rca pre out for around $100 and then the install is around $80 and to purchase the pocket that you need to install it... but obviously once the guy said that i needed another amp etc it went well over $400

Depending on the unit you pick it may or may not work with the factory sub. Some do, others don't, and it will also come down to how it is installed.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about it, you will probably find the new unit sends enough power to the speakers to overpower any gain you would have had with the sub anyway.

I'll ask our installer at work tomorrow what he reckons.

Yep the factory sub and amp wont work
Its on a different connecter and loom to the headunit loom
The head unit loom, you just purchase the ap1053 aerpro harness.

http://aerpro.com/p.php?pcode=AP1053

it will plug in to you factory harness
The new head unit wiring you get you connect to this
Just follow the colors, yellow to yellow etc
Can't remember which blue is amp or antenna.

To get your factory amp to work you need to follow this thread

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...ht=factory+amp

bit of mucking around

Personally i just ripped it all out

Spent a few nights on gumtree, got a decent sub, amps and wiring kit
YouTube and this BRILLIANT FORD FORUM to help install it
Done

Cheers

Had a quick chat with the installer today, long and short of it is that for the effort involved it's not really worth keeping the factory amp. Can get much better results with an aftermarket one either running a 4ch amp for speakers and mono for sub, or a 5 channel amp (Option Audio make one) and run speakers and sub off that. Decent 8 inch free air subs do exist, Kenwood, Clarion and Pioneer make them, so it shouldn't be that hard to work something out.

Use FP9140 fascia for your dash and dont bother trying to get a double DIN in there, go a good single DIN instead.

Its pretty easy man unless you don't have the time
we can support ya through it or just YouTube it

You will firstly need to go to your nearest ford dealer and kindly ask them to use there radio keys so you can remove the factory head unit easily or you can buy them off eBay
