EA Series II Tibbe lock conversion...

Hi guys,

Just got a quote out of City Ford in Melbourne for Tibbe Locks. $128.70 for the front doors + ignition + 2 keys and $72.50 for the boot lock + 2 keys.

What I am curious about and maybe someone can shed some light on the subject is why they aren't sold in a complete kit, ie. Doors, ignition AND boot all keyed alike.

Is there anyway of getting around having to have the two sets of keys?

As far as the installation is concerned, I am planning to source a steering column from a post EAII vehicle to get the two sheer bolted stronger barrel.

My second question is how does one remove the existing tibbe lock from the barrel, with no key, if the lock needs to be turned to the ACC position?

Are there any other potential problems I might run into with such a conversion?

I got the whole set of lucks for $90 just 2 years ago.

Sounds a bit weird.

Try Grant Walker Parts in Bayswater. I don't have their number but you could call up operator assistance or whatever and get their number. That's where I got my locks from.

My locks came curtesy of Jolly Rodgers, Steering column change was quite easy

I have all the door locks for $20, no keys though.

Thanks InitialD. What I am curious about though is how you go about removing the existing tibbe lock from the replacement steering column to fit the new one that came with the kit, if you dont have a key for the old one. If that makes sense.

I just swapped the whole steering column over when I did mine, seemed a far easier option then removing them.

Hi Dellboy999. Did the new steering column have an existing lock in it though? I am planning to source the column from Pick-A-Part and they all seem to have locks in the barrels. I assume it would need to be replaced with one that is keyed the same as the door locks I purchase?

yeah i got the steering column and full set of locks, including boot, all keyed the same and swapped it all over, if you upgrade to EL door handles you dont need a passenger lock

You can't get the barrel out of the lock assembly without the original key. I don't think there is any way around it. You'll just have to find a lock assembly with the barrel already removed.

To get the barrel out you need to get the key, put it in to the IGN position and then press a pin, which is on the barrel, through a hole in the igntion lock assembly. I hope that makes sense.

OK. Tried Grant Walker Parts on the advice of Sundeep.

Now the guy I spoke to there said the early tibbe Falcons came with seperate keys for the boot and doors/ignition. Can anyone confirm this?

He also mentioned the steering column needs to be rewired to suit the non-tibbe vehicle. To those who replaced their steering column, did you find this to be the case??

Are the door/boot locks a straight swap with no mods required?

i got mine from a eb wagon (mine was ea sadan) all locks just changed over .. i did need a ignision as mine was the old flat type key.. which the one i got was a smartlock one (eb) and i just left the wire disconnected ( nowhere to conect them to)
