Default Cylinder head porting via CNC machining

Sorry if this is a repost. (mods, please delete if it is)

But I thought this would have to be one of the most effective ways of head porting I have seen.

I just watched that .. How good is it .
It took me over 30hrs to do my I6 head
and looking at that It could be done in maybe 2-3hrs at a more consistant job..
I wonder how much it would cost and If the Boss would buy me 1 for x'mass.

These have been around for a while, still no substitute for an experienced builder/porter,remember the machine will only do what its programmed to do,a mistake will be repeated over and over again.
In the right hands though,it would be awsome.

That particular machine would be $250k+ at a guess.
One of our suppliers bought a biggish 5 axis a few years back, $600k....
Add in the time to learn and tooling and maintenaince costs and it gets spendy fast.

Awesome...! I wonder though, if the price of getting a pair of heads fully ported on that machine would be comparable to having them done the old fashioned way...

I run a CNC Biesse Rover at work, Awesome machine cuts our workload right down. Our machine is worth $250,000 and is only 3 axis, so your looking at $350,000+ for a five axis machine

yeah but they are awsome man. they accurate down to 0.003 mm, which is less that a human hairs width. and to watch em run, accuracy is unbelievable, I was trying to figure a way to set ours to do it, but the programming involved is unbelievable

I saw a demo by John Hart with one of their machines carving up billets at a Motorsport expo and those things are wicked. Accurate, fast. Sure being computer controlled there is garbage in and garbage out, but when they are set up properly then the stuff they can churn out is amazing.

No doubt but in where does all the cost go, it basically programs itself by touch/feel so once you have hand ported a head you don't need to write a program, slap it in and it'll copy the head.

I wonder if you could get that one in the vid to make a Boss lower intake out of a solid billet block.

Be it 150k US (which seems mighty cheap) or 250k.. You need to allow nearly 1/2 again for tooling, tool holders etc!.. Then there is the software which we are continually paying to upgrade.. and believe me, it ain't cheap!
I just bought another CNC lathe which was 100k...That's BARE.. NO tooling and this is only 2 axis.
Oh, and that software to scan or copy an object is 10's of thousands.
