Default Wsid 17-12-09

Tonight at WSID I managed a 12.6@111MPH in my F6 which I was very happy with, this is a PB.

I have raced it 3 times now. The first time I ran it was stock as a rock and came away with a 13.4@107MPH (first time effort in this type of car). Then two weeks ago the best was a 12.9@110MPH, other passes were in the 13's with crap 60 footers. On this second time the car was tuned by Spiro making 268rwkw from 217, plus the bigger injectors - relatively cheap mod!!

Since the second time out Mauz and Spoolman have being giving tips how to get the thing off the line faster + shifting with the ZF.

So this how I went tonight;

Pass 1 - 60' 2.271 ET 12.991 MPH 110.53 (manual shifting around 5500)
Pass 2 - 60' 2.145 ET 12.913 MPH 109.86 (manual shifting 6000 1st and 2nd, then 5500 3rd...)
Pass 3 - 60' 2.401 ET 13.376 MPH 108.73 (took off in 2nd - all over rover and quite a lot swearing on that run)
Pass 4 - 60' 2.169 ET 12.671 MPH 111.45 (manual shifting between 5000 - 5500)
Pass 5 - 60' 2,056 ET 12.843 MPH 109.84 (got good boost off the line, hit the rev limiter in 1st and then the swearing started again)
Pass 6 - 60' 2,207 ET 12.911 MPH 109.36 (it felt good this run, but not to be)

Night got cooler which helped.

With my launching I have followed Mauz advice with boosting in 2nd, into 1st and off you go. And must say like this approach but need to feel it a bit more. Meaning when's the right time to go and coordinating my feet off the brake and flat on the gas. I'm thinking there's a bit of skill here and I'm not quite satisfied with my results so far.

Thanks Mauz and Mark for helping out - it's great to get advice from lads that own 10 second cars.

Thanks Stav,

I spoke with Spiro from Autotech today and he said I'm on the money with the power the car is making.

We might just tweak the tune sightly to help me off the line.

But now I'm wondering whether I sould completely void my new car warrently and fit a stage 3 kit early next year??

If you can afford it and it makes you happy just do it. Spiro is pretty careful and when it comes to boosted cars their results have been pretty good.

Thanks Mauz,

I think next time out I might boost it to 2100 in 2nd. I discovered this morning I can get there okay.

Last night I was focusing too much getting around the 2000 and on some occasions was hovering for about a second or so. Whereas the action I think will work best a gradual acceleration to the limit, say 2100, and then take off - I guess practice will make perfect.

Cheers, Paul.

I agree, these cars seem to have a good record for reliability with big power.

I guess we also need to account for breakages when regularly racing.

As mentioned today Paul, great result mate. 12.6 in a very mildly tweaked F6 is impressively quick.

Hey mate,

It was good chatting with you on the night.

Great effort - manual shifting the ZF seems to be the way to go.

Cheers,

Paul.

Well done Paul and Autotech for edit and injectors that's a nice result, may have been that Greek souvlaki in the petrol tank. Lol.
You coming over on February 27th for FPV weekend drag day?

Cheers Mark...how did you know about the old Greek souvlaki in the petrol tank trick, is that how you got in the 10's

I'm real serious about coming over for the whole weekend and will confirm soon. Although I will probably bring the GT and Mauz is more than welcome to give it a blast.

Your 60 foot is just about "normal" for these things. The generic tune alone should get you very close to a 12 - I ran 13.0 backing off big time on my last run. A custom tune will see you easily in the 12s.

Lots of wheels spin will also give you an inflated mph.

I seen this from a couple of BF F6's 12.7 bmc and 12.9 stock, both run similar MPH, 109.

Tomorrow Spiro is going to give me a bit more boost off the line in the tune.

Will be interesting to see if this gives consistent mid 12's...maybe a low 12?

I seen this from a couple of BF F6's 12.7 bmc and 12.9 stock, both run similar MPH, 109.
In a manual it will do the oppsite see it time and time again with my car and the other week when Paul ran his BF with tune for the first time, his first pass he spun right through 1st and 2nd and mph was down about 4mph from every other run.

Simple physics, if your spinning say all of 1st and 2nd you are traveling some distance but with restricted accelerating (due to wheel spin), when you do get traction you have alot less distance to reach top speed. If you compare the speed your doing when the wheelspin stops to the speed you are doing at the same point if you had no wheel spin would guaranteed to be higher speed at the same point with no wheel spin, therefor if you have two cars identical ones doing a certain speed and the other is say traveling at a higher speed and the went flat out over the same distance obviously the faster one will reach a higher top speed over the same distance due to its head start. If you could do a pass with a say 4mph rolling start and one from a standing start you would see this straight away, it works like the car with out wheel spin had longer time to reach top speed.
