Im thinking of selling my car...And getting something for like $5,000-
Im thinking Manual, yes definitely manual.... A Jap or Euro car...Maybe even an Aussie car if i like it and the price is right... It has to come with a R.W.C and Rego..... Help people... What’s a good Jap/Euro/Aussie car that’s manual, reliable and doesn't cost too much on petrol...Or even gas... Cheers Simon |

not unless you have boost. No 4cyl for 5g's will beat a modified 6 cyl AU.

Do it and you will regret it. Jus tconvert yours to manual or put in a stally, throw in some diff gears and you'll forget about getting anything else.

i'll say it again.. any jap car you get for under 5k.. will not be turbo.. or quick.. and if it is turbo.. it will be shagged to death and you will have to spend another 5k to fix it...
i know.. i've been there done that... |

Keep your car,
If you switch to the jap, you might like the fuel prices, but you overall you wont be happy. You cant get a 1998 model for $5000 unless its a Suzuki Swift : |

Otherwise, you'd have to go old school, like an Alfa GTV.. with factory fitted rust. Or an old 1st gen RX-7, that gets 5MPG.. gallons of oil that is. EDIT: Sorry, that post wasnt real helpful. I think you should stick with your AU, else you'll end up like me, owning 6 cars in the space of 2.5 years. Not cool. |

get an old carbbied rwd 2lt celica or similar. Mine used to cost me $5 to travel 300ks on the highway, fuel was only $0.70 back then but still. Plus you can get a decint 1 for f all and they are easy to maintane and work with.

Put your cash into the AU, mate. Unless you really want to get rid of her, you should look above $5G Japs. You should be looking into something along the lines of $10-12G for something that would equal the AU IMO.

So let me get this straight, your old Celica used 7.15 litres of petrol to travel 300kms - that's 2.38 litres of petrol per 100 kms. That's fantastic economy, well done! If you've still got the car, you might want to sell it to one of the big car companys as they would pay you millions for that, so they can apply the fuel saving technology to all the other cars out there! |

My sister is looking for a small car for around $5000. If you're looking for a Nanna's car, thats great you'll find hundreds.. but if you're after something with a bit of go and some decent looks, thats in good condition.. they're far and few between.
You could pick up an Excel.. but, its an Excel. A guy driving an Excel stands out likes Dogs Balls. If you want something small.. save a little more, trade in the AU and you could pick up a late 90s to about 2000 Lancer, Civic or whatever.

honestly, go and buy the jap/euro crap 4 banger froced induction rice burner if you want.....or you can spend your 5g on some mods (engine mods means more then just exhaust), if its petrol price your worried about, i work for tourquegas on the sunshine coast, to convert my wagon it would cost me $4150 approx, less if you use 2nd hand parts (all in good working order) then you get back 2g from the government. all in all, an LPG conversion costing little more then $2000, leaving you another $3000 to mod the au be it audio or performance. on the plus side, despite constant rumers, you lose stuff all power on gas compared to petrol. I lost 1 - 2 rwkw on gas in my stocko wagon. if you have done engine mods and are seriously concerned about losing to much power, try SVI conversion. Sequential Vapour Injection is more pricey and still LPG conversion, but power remains same, if not better, also if you find a servo that sells pump propane (130 octane compaired to 100 with LPG) you get a bigger kick, something similar to octane boost additive for petrol vehicles. maybe I should start another thread about pros and cons with LPG?!!

private9 that was a typeo, metn 200ks (Townsville to Ingham retun) and for all these sugestions to mod his AU further, by the sounds of it its not a preformance issue but cost, and if you wanna be a povo your best off with a 4 cyl

if you want to sell your AU Simon,
return it to stock, and sell all the parts separately, you will probably get more money for it then.
