"Ford in Australia is waving its hand in the air for a right-hand-drive version of the next F-150, with the brand's local boss telling CarsGuide she is "making sure people understand there is a market" in Australia for the world's best-selling vehicle.
Ford is currently hard at work on the next-gen F-150, expected to arrive Stateside in 2021, with international reports suggesting the key engine would be a new 4.8-litre V8 good for around 315kW and 570Nm, and that it would partner with a 10-speed automatic. Rumours have been swirling that the next F-150 will be a global product with the potential for a steering wheel on both sides of the car. And that's something Ford in Australia is hoping for, describing "commercial and trucks" as one of its strengths in this market. "We have continued, as we have for a number of years, to say that if there was a right-hand-drive (vehicle), then Australia, we believe, would be a good market for an F-150, but currently there are no plans for a right-hand drive," says Ford Australia president and CEO, Kay Hart. Read More: Ford F-150 full-size ute still on radar in Australia "We continue to put in our market wants. We have a process at Ford which looks at where we believe our customers are, and where we believe our strengths will be. Commercial and trucks is clearly one of our strengths."

Wishful thinking
If FOA doesn’t have any RHD plans for the MY 21 F150 then the minimum is plus two years from now if they said yes today. The 4.8 V8 story was an internet misread of Ford changing coyote’s bore size, Ford increased the bore when internet experts thought it would be decreased. |

I've been seeing so many newish RHD conversions and bigger, pulling gooseneck trailers (Rodeo season) here lately, I thought they must have been factory.

Perhaps they are seeing the success of the other large American utes?
Going gangbusters from all reports. Would be a smart move to get a RHD factory vehicle into our market but the number crunchers will ultimately decide. Are the converted ones restricted here in any way? Like once they pass a certain amount of conversations they need to do more to make them more 'factory'? Sent from my LG-M700 using Tapatalk

Here’s a question to think about,
Given the price range of US F150 crew cabs is similar to GT Mustang, Would a factory RHD F150 crew cab start around $65k-$70k? |

Price, doesn't seem to be stopping the horsey set, farmers and 5th wheelers buying RHD converted ones.

I guess if this comes to fruition all the carpark spaces will suddenly be big enough for these full sized ute's unlike now....

Who knows, drivers might even learn how to park properly too.

Landcruiser dual cab only has a year or two left in it before safety, emissions and economy laws get the better of it. Toyota has no plans to replace it.

Dunno, these big mothers are really only suited to rural use. They really are a pain in the butt around cities.Parking spaces seem to be getting smaller and less of them. How many times do you see even Landcruiser size vehicles taking 2 spaces because the drivers either can’t park them or have the “it will be right” attitude

Toyota and Ford sell as many Hilux's and Rangers in a couple of weeks than they sell Rams and Silverados in a whole year. I would love to see Ford build a RHD factory F series though. But imo it won't happen. Not as those tiny numbers. Ford would sell more F series in half a day than Ford Australia could sell in a year. The yanks are flat knacker just supplying the north american market. They simply don't need to make RHD versions. A local conversion by Premcar or it's ilk would be more likely. The all electric F150 coming next year would be interesting. |

Seen a few converted F trucks here to go with Rams and Silverados. No reason they could not do the same if not factory RHD.
As I have said before I reckon Toyota would probably be the first with factory RHD. Tundra or Tacoma or maybe both. |

It is a given if you are a car maker there are two things you need to be able to do.
1) Have different engine options for the same body. 2) Make LHD and RHD versions of the same body. This has been a given for over 100 years now so I don't understand the mindset. Yes we may only consume a piddly amount but what happened to the ruthless aggression of a company to steal sales off the opposition at all costs. Isn't the goal of a company to be #1 in every market they enter? Looking at Toyota there is plenty of market share to take. Who would be happy with the football coach of their team sitting 10th on the ladder saying " yeah we could bring in some new strong players but will cost too much. We are happy to sit here on the ladder and toddle along?

I tell ya what. If they did, hang onto your hat because theyd need security out the front of Ford dealers to let people in 1 at a time!

Now I thought of it I actually saw a tray back Ram yesterday which I thought was weird
I can't speak to how good they are but Toyota is the only company I can think of who has a good enough rep here who can build them factory and flog em cheap enough. |

They wouldn’t be cheap though. Just look at what they charge for cruisers. Especially troopies. Crazy price when they are bare bones.

They only have to be cheap enough to cut the grass of the local converters though which they could do easily. Like you said we still pay huge for Cruisers so price is not really a concern.

I'll have to get down to the rodeo tomorrow and do a head count on F's, GM and RAM's just to suit my own curiosity.
