hi, im looking for an ECU that will work with my car. its an 88 EA 3.9 manual.
im after an MPI ECU because im soon to convert it from CFI to MPI. i have everything excpet the ECU. everything else came of an EB including the new loom. the EB was a manual. iv been told i can use any MPI ECU of an EA, EB or ED, but others have told me i can only use a manual mpi ECU out of an EB since all the other parts are from an EB? if it matters, my car has an immobilisation system. all help much appreciated!

Smartlock and non smartlock ecu's are what you need to watch out for here.
A Smartlock ECU won't run at all without the smartlock system there. This includes the module, wiring, ignition key at the minimum. I don\t really see the point of changing all the looms as theres only one wire you need to change to convert a CFI engine loom to work properly with Multi Point. It takes half an hour to do properly or 5 mins if you dodgy it up. To use the EB looms you would need to do the entire car as the EB stuff won't mix and match with the early EA stuff. Plugs are all different shapes and it would be a nightmare to do. Also any EA or EB1 ECU (including Auto) will run a manual car just fine. Its when you get to the EB2 with the integrated Auto control that you get funny things happening.

but one more question. If i were to use a CFI loom, it would mean i would need to add all the other injector plugs as well as changing the other wire. correct? if i were to use a loom out of a MPI EA to EB1, it should be fine?
