Last 3 runs plauged with traction issues, signified by the 16.3sec pass... was a good night, a little dissapointed with the times, but roll on heathcote. (btw only mods are cat back + 1004/110, running 3.23 open centre + 4speed in an EL Fairmont)

Nice times there, Walki!
Considering the mods done you've done bloody well! I guess the 1004/110 isn't so bad after all is it? :P |

yeah i did play with tyre pressures.
The 1st run was done on 235 17's (Falkens) runnin 38psi The 2nd run was done on 205 15's running 30psi and the last two were running 18psi, not much diffrence, but i just couldnt get the power down. every run but the first one blazed the tyres off the line. I idled the 1st run off the line. The 3rd run was done by stalling it to 1900 then mashing the throttle on the last yellow. As you can see by the 60' and ET, it didnt work. Left two black marks for 100'. As for what i was expecting, low 16's at 85mph-ish was my guess. The 1004/110 does go allright but she dies above 4800, could be the stock exhaust manafold and cat im running. For heathcote im trying to have extractors/2.5" cat and a new cam in the car, and some decent sticky tyres. Went with two other guys i knew, one in a VY1 SS the other in a BOG STOCK BA1 XR6T auto. Best time was a 13.75@105mph for the VY1 SS (CAI + Exhaust) and the XR6T was quite a shock for a stock car running consistant 13.95's with a best of 13.8x@101mph, running dead stock with 3/4 tank of fuel and sp9000's 18's @ 38psi.

Well done dan, thats good to hear. I noticed you are going for a new cam, why's that? Nerris must be pleased with his times!! Was he stalling it at the lights at all? If so, what RPM? Just wondering what is the best way to launch dads XR6T next time I drive it :P

He tried stalling to 1500, 1800 2300 and just before spinning. 2300rpm launch netted a damn good 13.8 slip, but stalling to just before traction loss resulted in a 24sec 1/4 with a 660' burnout.
As for the reason for a new cam....more power...;)

I was just thinking regarding total cost to get to this time from stock, and what “fun” aims I could set up. So far for a 15.449 I have added a cat back + wade 1004 cam+ AU2 snorkel, $260 + $122 + $10respectivly. So $392 to get to 15.449. It would be intresting to see if I could get to a 15.00 for under $1000. So, I have $608 to spend to try and shave 0.5 sec off my time. Chances=slim, but could be fun to try and run a flat 15 for under $1000 in mods in an Auto. Any suggestions for the remaining $608??

Good work on the times
Do you have extractors yet? With that money you could get a chip, or bigger cam + headwork damm I didnt realise the drags were open. I am hanging out to run a few passes.

Damn, beat my time :P
For $608, i'd go for a 2500 stall, and 2nd hand extractors. Or hire an oxy for the week......

were running almost identical times and mph's Best was 15.449 and 90.4, both on diffrent runs.
2nd hand Pacy's are probably what i will look at getting, and a 2500 stall could be a good investment to help fix my woefull 60's of 2.3-4sec

That would make it interesting.
I honestly reckon once you have had a few runs you could get a better time than 15.4. The first time you go your mind isn't really on the job. I dunno about others but I was worried about this and that, because its a new experience. If you let it sit there for a while and cool a bit, had decent tyres on it, perfected your launch and played with tyre pressures you would surely take a few tenths off that time without even spending a cent. Stupid drag racing. Its so damn addictive.. |

I'm amazed you had traction problems.
I've never had any problems with traction while dragging my car, needless to say i havnt run a 15.4 but i've always run on street rubber @ street pressure (38psi) Guess heathcote will be a good test

Well my 1st run was on 235 17's @ 38psi, i didnt stall it up, and ran the quickest time 15.449, but the 60' was 2.3sec, nice and slow!!
All other runs were stalled up various ammounts 1100-1500-1800 etc all resulted in wheelspin, with the 1800rpm stall resulting in bulk wheelspin and a tail happy slide for 50m. Very dissapointing. Will be looking to have some grippy tyres on her for heathcote and will try 1800-2k stalls with full throttle launches, not like the 3/4throttle launches i was restricted to sat night due to traction.

Maybe its the LSD, but with my 18" 235s i dont get wheelspin in the dry no matter how much i stall it. With the 205 cheesecutters, though... ;)
