Most reliable Falcon

Which model of Falcon was the most reliable, or have any of us had a good run in a particular model Falcon and thought theirs is the most reliable?

AU. All the E Series upgrades, with one important extra - no head gasket problems.

Most that have owned one would happily have another. There were just no major mechanical flaws, as stated head gasket problems had been sorted by AU launch and the live axle rear was tough as nails.

perhaps before it's time..i think the AUIII would suit 2010/11 demographic better.

Definitely the AU. Took everything they got right about the E-series and did it better.

funny you should mention that it was really ahead of it's time when you consider aerodynamics. The AU had a Cd of 0.295 compare that to the following

Lamborghini Murciélago 0.33
McLaren F1 0.32
Mazda RX-8 0.31
Lamborghini Diablo 0.31
B series Falcon 0.31
Aston Martin DB9 0.34
Ferrari F430 0.34

so the humble "ugly duckling" was way ahead of it's time I'd not all about look the overall design of a car is a big factor. Ford put a good package together but there were too many knockers out there

A B-series falcon with its square nose has the same Cd as a wedge shaped Lamborghini Diablo?.. am I seeing things

the best to know are the taxi drivers. From the many ive spoken to, they say AU falcon.

They also say never buy the first series of a model, pretty safe if you buy series 2\3.

Really any falcon series 2 is pretty tough.

all genuine figures CD is more than just curves and how the car looks but then would you have expected the AU to beat these exotic sports cars?

Really any falcon series 2 is pretty tough.

Nothing at all wrong with the AU1 from a reliability perspective, is that same as an AU2/3 but with slightly smaller brakes, which were fine in normal conditions.

I've put nearly 200k on AUs that I've owned and have yet to be stranded.
I'm sold on em, my latest one was chosen over BA Fairlane, BMW 740 and 540i, Alfa 156 V6 6 spd and Volvo S80 T6 and V70 wagon. All of which I looked at but for some reason couldn't stray from an AU.
And it seems anything that isn't as bland as all the jap *** polluting our roads are considered ugly (french cars, Volvos, bangle BMWs, AU coons). From a styling point the AU was far ahead of it's time, in particular the Fairmont Ghias with the tickford body kit and the AU3 XR6/8. They show how much the B series and VT-VZ have aged anyway.

Looks like the answer is pretty obvious, both my AU's were rock solid (one of which was a series I).

That being said my BFII has been absolutely flawless for the admittedly short period I've owned it.

XD falcon,electronic dizzy just out of the points generation but still not high tech,drivelines built ole school tuff also.

Apart from the door handles a bullet proof car in 6 and cleveland power.

Had my AUII Mont for 5 years, only breakdown was as oil pressure switch and a blown gearbox..

Pressure switch was during "spirited driving", and the auto was what happens when you have 590nm@2800rpm with 3.9's through a stock auto.. (lost 2nd gear..)

Au's all the way (IMO - AU3 cause it had heaps better breaks then AU1.. better front grill too)

But in saying that, my dad had an EL as a taxi and clocked it back to 0 (over 1 million ks) and never had the head gasket replaced... the mechanics called it "The Freak"... until some one drove up the back and wrote it off...

I agree, AU all the way. It was the last of the old school, simple is best, Falcons. The BA had a massive step up tech and therefore became less reliable.
