I used to play a lot - consider myself a decent player.. won the last 3 tournaments I played a few years ago netting about $5000 combined but never liked the format that they played and stopped playing completely because of it.
Appears that the focus for most sit down tournaments in clubs/pubs is to get your bum on the seat then get you out as quickly as possible so they can pack up and go home. Blinds go up too fast, too often and an hour in you feel like you're playing a game of bingo instead of a game of poker since 3/4 of whoever is left is on the verge of being blinded out so every hand at least one person is all-in. Love watching poker on TV and was sad when they canned high stakes poker but unlikely to ever want to play again. |

Used to play online but gave up, something quite dodgy about having your AA beaten by KKKK, then half an hour later having another lot of AA get rivered by a J to give a guy a straight. That's Pokerstars for you. Action hands for max rake.
Have played in pubs too, I know what you mean, the more beer you drink the more chips you get. You can see where that heads after a while. Not really a good way to play 'properly.' Have played in a few casinos too, I love the xmas time of year, you get all the drunk suckers who only play once a year after their work party. Usually do ok! |
