I think it's not uncommon in tech companies. There seems to be this culture of 'go hard' and do whatever it takes to make the company successful. Ethics go out the window when staff are told to do ANYTHING and they'll be rewarded

The surprising part is that Governments just sit and watch instead of stopping them and making them obey the laws like us mere mortals have to.

Apparently Uber paid the hackers to delete the stolen data.

But how the hell in this digital age, would you ever know that all copies of the data have been deleted when it is so easy to make a zillion copies.

Sounds like an inside job to me.

Too many of these companies are out of control, they get away with just about anything they want and nobody to keep them in check - this is nothing new.

Kind of like what's going on in Hollywood atm, now it seems some, both individuals and companies, will be held accountable.

Not the first company to have this. Not the last unless digital security is taken seriously.

Australia seems to really bad for lacklustre security.

When you consider people's Medicare data was hacked. I'd be more worried as that's 25% of someone's identity out there.

Few things off the top of my head:
1. This is the information that UBER *told* us was taken ..
2. .. or this is the information UBER *think* was taken ..
3. They had a regulatory / legal obligation to report and didn't.
4. The information is potentially the start of an identify theft (at a minimum) .. social engineering for another system (linked by email or phone number), etc.
