The newel is the way to go , not a flash highway but the most direct route.
Overnight in Dubbo , then up to brissie. |

Yeah, a while back we used to do this run a few times a year. We tried both the pacific and the newell. We thought the newell to be the better run. Nowhere near sydney.

What he said. I've done this route as well as the Pacific Highway and though the Newell highway may be a tad boring, it is a flat comfortable drive without the traffic volume that you find on the coast road. Coonabarabran is the ideal nightly stopover with a good motel being the Tower Clock, 50 metres from the Imperial Hotel where their dining room serves up great meals. |

mate the Newell is the go but dont stop in that shithole DUBBO. every time i go this way and have to stop in DUBBO what ever car im driving breaks down and costs a fortune to fix even simple things are expensive there,i hate the place with a passion ,no help unless you are prepared to pay.and pay dearly.

So what's happening now is, Gary is collecting me from the Airport, then were of to Herrod's to pick up the Ute and then were of to QLD.. I will be following Gary (in the Terri) and Myself in a worked BA BOSS ute.. fuel consumption between the 2 will be interesting to see....
OH I forgot to mention.. We will be taking the inland route.. I think thats the Newell hwy |

I drove up the Newell in a packed EA when I moved up to Brissy from Melbourne, good road but boring as hell. Stopped in Coonabaraban, seems to be the go. I'll be doing it again at the end of the year, not particularly excited by the thought! (At least I'll have a nice new leather interior on the way back though : )

Check your tyre pressures before departing, higher rather than low.
Was about to mention a UHF CB for road information on route, but not possible I guess. Agreed with above posts, avoid Sydney, it is hell. Vic Hume has overbearing speed enforcement and point to point camera installations, try another route, somewhere nice with less BS to contend as your able, Newell sounds right. Mobile - CDMA or gasp - digital. Water, etc . .

Pacific has alot of road works on it at the moment, so Newell would be much better option.
