We are considering a new Focus Sport Auto. Probably a diesel. There are many reviews on the web with people complaining about the transmission. (shudder, lag & upshifting too early) What are they really like? Are problems with them widespread? Are they better in diesel than petrol? I have read that there was a software update recently. I would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Golfer, thanks. That's good to know. We will be test driving a couple next week. What model did you end up getting. Do you have to wait long?

I've had a diesel sport hatch for almost 3 weeks now, and I've done just over 2,000 kms - No problems with the gearbox at all. The car exceeds all my expectations in so many ways. It's a great car.

I have a sport diesel. Before picking it up I read countless posts about the transmission from a US based focus forum so I was particularly worried. Then I took delivery of the car and I think I was a little caught up on how the transmission was working and made myself a little concerned about whether not it was OK.
I think I was being overly critical at the time, OR it's simply just run in since then. It isn't without its jerkiness or hesitation AT TIMES, however overall it's a real pleasure. What you can take away from the journo's reviews is the fact that it seems more intelligent and refined than the Golf's offering. Don't worry about it, take delivery drive it and enjoy. It's got a lot to offer |

Ive had my Diesel for a few weeks now, as others mentions no issue, drive well, transmission is good. Been a dual clutch manual they do feel different to an auto.

We just purchased a Powershift TDCi, drives good, changes are smooth, there is a bit of lag with the turbo that can catch you off guard if you're not used to it.

If ya want the diesel it only comes in the powershift. My manual petrol is great I would have bought a Diesel however I wanted a manual.
