Default Shelby GT350R vs Camaro Z28

Awesome comparo here. The Shelby seems like an absolute weapon.

Pretty upsetting that we don't even get the option to buy one here, don't even need the 'R' just the regular 350 would suffice. Old mate looked like he was having so much fun in the mustang, brought a smile to my face just watching his initial reaction.

The Corvette may have something to say about that.

Well if your comparing the Z06 to the 350R there is about USD$20k difference by the time its on the road.

And havent seen that the LT4 has been confirmed for the 2017 camaro update.

But game on I say, the camaro will need to make up over 5 secs over laptime around the ring

That ford voodoo motors just sounds so good as well.

It's great to see the American muscle car is alive and well. Unlike our own industry.
They really seem to have recaptured the spirit of the seventies muscle car and given it a shiny new jacket.
Bring it.

Not sure why this thread is full of "but the corvette" last I checked the Camaro was the GM equiv of the Mustang??

Not sure I like the sound of the flat plane crank when compared with the LS7, need to hear them IRL I think. The look on the guys face when driving the Mustang just tells the story, it's way beyond the GM product.

Also posted here.

Good review, in all honesty choosing either you can't lose. Both are good cars.
I like the sound of the LS7, deep throaty V8. But I also love the sound of the 5.2 in the Ford.
The Mustang just seems a lot more track focused and had a bit more time spent on the interior and handling set up. It just seems that much more special.
If it were my $$ on the table, I'd take the Mustang.
As I said in the other thread, this has to be one of the greatest Ford products of the modern era.

Volume was up just fine, I didn't say I hated it, just prefer the LS7 when listening on that recording.

Real life will be the only way to confirm though, very hard to compare online because the recording equipment might not have picked up some important harmonics.

I would have a crushed ball for a 5.2 Mustang- oh that's right my ball is already crushed....

All seriousness, love the GT350R, but it clearly is designed/tailored for track. On the road, I think it would lack the immediate torque of the blown V8s, to get the best out of it you would need revs.

The Camaro would be more driveable on the street (like the Aussie blown v8s)- immediate punch for gaps, the Mustang you would need to downshift- this is clear looking at the dyno torque/power curves.

But- I agree, this Mustang is something special. The reaction of the driver tells all.....

The GT350 has a pretty flat torque curve and revs up mega fast. I doubt it would be a chore to tootle around in. And it has ride comfort, something the rock hard Z28 doesn't.

You can see on the graphs it has a noticeable spike in the midrange, probably inevitable with such a high red line.

I too prefer the sound of the LS7. It seems muted compared to the GT350R but also sounds more like it has more bass, no doubt helped by the extra displacement.

The next Z28 should claw back some ground with the lighter chassis so it will be interesting to see if Ford respond.

Yeah- it would not be a chore to tootle around in.

Was just chewing the fat that it would have less torque relative to big cubes engine or V8 with super.

But, good point, flat plane crank has less weight means quicker to spool up revs and more responsive to throttle.

Lets put it this way, if Camaro and the Mustang GT 350R came to Australia, I would be trying to find a way to convince my wife why I just needed, as a matter of life and death urgency, to buy one last car (the GT350R) when I just had that conversation 12 months ago when buying the FGX XR8, saying the FGX XR8 would do me and I would have no more desire to get another car.....

Appears the ford cars are rubbish too according to you......don't forget that

As for driving each of those cars in the reall world.......much was said of the soft compliant yet still faster suspension of the ford.......yet the GMs suspension was rock hard. Both have enough power for any street I'd imagine

I would love to see the GT350R go up against HSV's 430Kw. And I know who's going to win. And it's not going to be the HSV.

It can be pretty frustrating driving around a car that revs to 9k that doesn't have any grunt under 3k. Cant drive around streets in mid range revs all the time and it is not an enjoyable drive. The Z28 could be used as a daily driver no problem, the GT350R no..but I would choose it for a weekender.
