Default Corrolla Sportivo or FG XR6 around a track.

What would be faster out of the 2 around a track?

Depends what track..

FG XR6 but it would need to be a manual so you could really thrash it.

Which track?! EC, I'd back the falcon. A tighter circuit might favour the Corolla...

You'd think a Falcon would win at an open track with long straights and fast-flowing corners without a question.

High speed and long corners - Falcon
Tight and technical - Corolla

Happy to be proven wrong with video.

Even on a tight track and low speed the falcon would beat it

I know someone who had a sportivo, in theory it sounded like a awesome machine when he ordered it, in practice it was barley quicker than the normal one it replaced, but it did rev to 8000something, below that and when driven like a normal car it was poo and slow and gutless, I never drove it but I viewed it in my rear view mirrors of an elderly 5 series many times LOL

According to Motor Magazine

Corolla sportivo 1.16:75 Wakefield lap time

I can't find a non turbo lap time but an aurion does 1.16:11 and we have all heard how they are poo in comparison, so mid 1.15's I think an FG XR6 would do

Yea, rev'ed stupidly high, made a lot of noise, didnt go very fast at all. This did however have 140fwkw which was quite a bit in its day...

I assume you're talking about the old sportivo with the VVTI-L motor?

Id say the falcon. The falcon would win at bathurst. Although what id honestly like to see is the sector times across the top of the mountain.

Would the falcon be quicker? I honestly dont know.

I vote XR6. Sportivo needs to be in "Lift" like Vtec to put the power down. Lift kicks in at 6000rpm. Before that it's worse than turbo lag! Also the suspension and gearbox is rubbish for track use. Mate used to own one.

Never driven one but it I always thought it would be one of those engines which the numbers sound good on paper but doesnt translate in real life, like a Honda S2000 I once drove.

Corrolla sportivo 0-100km/h 8.4 seconds, standing 400m 16.1 seconds (Toyotas claimed figures).

It would have to carry a much higher corner speed to come close to the XR6 with that sort of acceleration.

The base XR6 has changed very little mechanically since BA. If the BA was in a good state of tune with as new brakes and suspension, I would place my money on the BA.

We just sold our 2005 Corolla Sportivo after owning it for four years, it was the wife's car.

Reliable, fast(ish) when given a bootful in low gears, comfortable and handled pretty well. Brilliant car.....for her. Not my thing though, while fast it really needs to be revved hard to have any meaningful accelation, below 5-6k rpm it was pretty gutless and if caught in the wrong gear it's near impossible to gain any descent rate of speed, on the freeway I had to down gear to third (they are all six speed manual) to overtake rapidly, mind you the thing sits at 3200 rpm at 100 km/h in sixth, so they're build to rev, nice engine but gutless in the low to mid range.

The XR6 would destroy it, any circuit, any transmission.

Cars like that require different driving styles and technique, you can't go along changing gears at 4000 and expect torque. This is true for everything Honda and NA rotary engines. Rev the crap out of the bastard.

S2000 doesn't actually do anything before 6000 RPM, between 6000-9000 is where its good and you have to keep it there.

I'd put money on the Corolla if it was a tight and twisty track.

Thats because you're feeling lots of torque from the I6, which is what small 4 cylinder rev happy engines lack.

Its like my TDCI Focus, it feels like its going fast because it puts out 340nm at 2000 RPM, you get pushed back into the seat when you accelerate hard, but really you're lucky to do 100km/h in under 10 seconds, even though you're pushed into the seat, haha.

As the former owner of a 2003 Sportivo I second the above wholeheartedly. They are an awesome little car but need to be thrashed to get the most out of them - amateurs often find they cant kep the car in "lift" (like Vtec) on the first to second shift. Driven well you can get a very low 14 quarter out of them, but the rear suspension at high speed is a bit unsettling. I would put my house on the FG.

I think it would be WAY more fun than a torquey car. And yes, faster on tight tracks, and anyway, why would you rev it any less than 5000 or 6000?

I wonder what one, and the other would do around the nordshleife? I was there the other day, and drove a new Clio Sport Cup RS 200hp, no power under 5500, but after that to 7500 it flew! They are 6.9 to 100, and this compares with a VW GTi with turbo, similar power, lots more torque, not revvy and heavier. Around the Nordschleife the clio in a professionals hands is a little faster! And WAY more fun.

Even if the corolla is a little slower round a track, it would leave you with a big grin when driven well! Falcon not so much. Like a Golf GTi, not much fun at all (in comparison). (and yes I have friends with GTis)

Down a twisty mountain pass the Corolla would eat it IMO.
In my experience the FG doesnt like changing directions quickly, and the brakes fade fast.
