Default Top Gear UK - Season 23

Well just streamed the new episode of the new era

The new main host Chris Evans seems to talk loud a lot

Matt still is boring outside of Friends

Sabine, always liked her and she is great. Needs more air time as main host I reckon

Reasonably priced RallyCar is different and the two guest format I didn't like so much
Big tv screen though. Wow

Overall will need some tweaking.

Are BBC carrying on the legacy of fun and games first, documentary last, or are they turning it into an outright documentary (which is the recipe for failure).

You would think they'd have learned from the abortions that were Top Gear USA, Australia, Outer Mongolia...where ever.
But it should work...the formula is sound, it seems simple enough, other countries versions have at times been almost carbon copies, even attempting the same sort of banter between the guys, but for some reason without the Holy Trinity of Clarkson, May, and Hammond, it just Does. Not. Work.

I think the BBC should have reprimanded Clarkson, fined him, public apology or something, and let the cash cow keep on going along.

Hell...if the BBC were happy enough to cover up kiddie fiddlers like Harris, Saville, and others for decades, who cares about some prissy producer getting a bop on the nose for being snooty to the biggest star they have?

Someone needs to drag that ginger outside into the sun kicking and screaming!
Had we never seen the original, most people would say its great, but since we're use to the old hosts which had chemistry we are left with what seemed a try hard effort.
I'll still watch it to get a car fix, but i'm awaiting Amazon Prime trio to return.
Hopefully it gets better through the season.

The first episode was always doomed to be compared in a negative way to the good ole boys imo. I was very keen to love the new show but I think Chris Evans was an odd choice and why is he yelling all the time? The Viper Vs Vette was good and the Reliants okay but the Audi R8 ad was the best part. Extra Gear however is rubbish and lol at Sabine to the host in words to the effect "You'll be pale if you ride with me".

Havnt seen it but there's no way even bothering trying to compare it to the original cast.

I would have..

Matt Le Blanc playing his character from Friends. Now imagine him doing a road-trip in a Veyron? Sponsors would be sued and certain people would be removed from the credits.

Co-hosts Rowan Atkinson, Anthony Hopkins and John Jarratt.

chris harris who hasnt been on yet is one of the best presenters alive, they need to ditch the ginger (who must play in the uk but will not anywhere outside it) and let harris host it.

Absolutely agree

I saw Extra Gear last night and man, some reason i enjoyed it alot.

Was good.

Chris Harris would be great as a main co host with Sabine and Le Blanc and Evans can then fade away and stop shouting

Evans just seemed like he was acting with his nuts in a vice. What a horribly forced performance. Matt seemed ok potential there. Bring on Harris Monkey and perhaps I'll watch another. That whole three wheeled silliness may have worked with the three Stooges in the old show but the FF button worked.

Let Chris Harris and Sabine host. Move Evans to Extra Gear if they must.

Seen enough. Not interested in the current format. Bring on The Grand Tour.

Chris Harris seemed abit off to my eyes. I haven't seen his YouTube stuff, but he seemed to go from calm to fidgety once the cameras came on him and seemed to have a snobby shtick to him, the only time it kinda worked was when he said the black SUV's belong to drug dealers.

Chris Evans was OK but seemed like he was forcing his presence with the shouting. Matt LeBlanc was a bit dull and probably needs to come up with a character for the show instead of being himself. Sabine might get better but I don't think any comedy with her will work with the language and cultural difference.

Ok think we have a date for Grand Tour

Just recieved this email

Dear Amazon customer,

You told us you wanted to be the first to know any news about Clarkson, Hammond and May's new show The Grand Tour.

The show's first ever studio recording will be filmed in Johannesburg on 17th July 2016 and Amazon is giving fans the opportunity to win one of three pairs of tickets, travel and accommodation to be part of the recording.

The previous top gear show worked so well because of the 3 people Clarkson Hammond and JMay worked together it was unreal how they worked so well with each other

and the BBC should have killed the show after the sacking

This new show will never work even if Sabine Schmitz appeared naked it would not work you cannot repeat the previous show

No- the old show is dead without the unholy trinity.

But, a new type of show could be created with Sabine and Chris Harris.

They are both great drivers, passionate about high performance machinery, and both have sense of humour which could be developed off each other.

Imagine for instance, a show with Chris Harris driving the fastest British sports car under $150,ooo euro against the best of german sports car for that money driven by Sabine- say round the nurburg ring, looser to suffer some indignity chosen by the other etc etc.

It could work, but will be a different show, not as boofhead, more serious high performance automotive technical nirvana land...with drivers who can actually drive.

I just don't understand the love for Sabine. Ok, she can drive, but I don't think she really cuts it as a presenter (English being a second language being a major factor).

Chris Evans is the worst bit of it I reckon. He is just annoying. Matt LeBlanc wasn't great but he didn't irritate me like Evans. I'll still watch it but it's nowhere near as entertaining as the original version. Perhaps as they get into it more and settle down and things aren't so forced it'll get better... perhaps

If you took away the amateur echo chamber sound, and the shouty annoying man it wasn't to bad. I thought Extra Gear was an opportunity to bring in some new blood.

It's all about chemistry, Top Gear USA was entertaining in it's own way because of just that.

If they just concentrate on the cars without the 'Men behaving badly' then it will just be 5th Gear.

Being a Pom, I've watched Top Gear since the '80's, back when it was about the cars actually, and was disheartened to see the new show just rehash all of the old catch phrases and stunts, which were wearing thin anyway. I turned it off after 20mins.

I admit Le Blanc was more amusing than Evans, and seemed more at home with a script to follow. Evans was great on his live unscripted chat shows back in the '90's and '00's; "TFI Friday" and "Don't Forget your Toothbrush."

I found the top gear extra much better. they look to be working harder.

first half of the first episode was hard to watch. The rest of family didn't stop in the room tilll the star in a car.

the recording stopped so I had the rerecord to get the end with the 4x4. I was just OK.

Harris seemed a lot more restricted and forced compared to his YouTube channel. They've obviously taken a bit of his freedom away. When Harris has his freedom and drifts just about anything around a track, its good viewing material.

I just dont like Matt Le Blanc on this show. His personality appears dull, at times he is hard to understand and he's really not funny. And then there is his american accent on a UK show.....
