Default Rest in Peace M.C.

Despite a very large circle of friends, I doubt anyone on here knows him, as he was not a "car nut", but anyway, my brother pulled up stumps on 20 Feb after a losing battle with depression. Hoping he's found the peace he sought, and hoping those left can one day return to life as normal (albeit without him).

His acute depression was E & K induced, and despite professional help and medication, he felt that he couldn't go on living with the mental torture. The simple message is DRUGS ARE BAD!

Dear JC, having been a counsellor for many years, battling depression is devastating for all involved. The pain for the family and friends of someone who decides to end their own lives is also very devastating.

While I am not involved in counselling now, I do live near Canberra, and if you need someone to just have a chat to, just give me a yell via PM

Very sad. Thoughts and best wishes to you and your family and friends.

Depression - Another silent killer.

Please, if you think a friend or family member is even slightly depressed, help them! Lend an ear; don't judge, don't tell them to pull their heads in etc, just listen. You could be helping more than you know.

My condolences to you and your family JC.
Depression is one of those things where it's very difficult to gauge the degree to which someone is affected...making effective treatment so much harder.

Thanks all for the condolences. Troy - chin up and keep trying; here's hoping the meds you are on are more effective than what my brother was on.

Thanks - it appears that the hit/miss nature of the treament is what tipped him over the edge. He had been "coping" - not very well, but he was still alive. Then he went on meds for a little over a week with no improvement - in fact, if anything, they made him feel worse. Knowing him, he probably thought "well, if these aren't helping, I have no future". His note says that he didn't want to be a burden to anyone and he couldn't see that it was getting any better - a terrible mind set to be in, but he was, in a funny way, thiking of others, as he always did. Of course he would/may have been better going back to the doc and getting a different type of med, but I think he had faced the demon for long enough and didn't have the mental strength to go on. Before any of this, I would not have associated depression and my brother together at all.

I will certainly miss him, as will the rest of his family, and his partner, and the many friends all over the world that he has left behind. RIP.

My deepest condolences to you JC and the rest of your family and friends. A friend of mine had a brother go down the same road, ending in the same tradgedy. I understand the ache that you feel and the emptiness that accompanies it.

I also suffer from depression, and understand at least partially the torment that your brother may have felt.

Words are useless at aptly conveying my empathy for you and all those around you, but know that the feeling is well and trully there.

Best wishes in the upcomming months.

Very sad to hear mate hope you pull through on top of everything, I have suffered severe depression years ago and am still on medication to keep things stable, everything has been fine since the meds but doctors say it can affect someone that much if you need to take meds for years then so be it. Its a living hell once your affected and it makes you feel like there is NO light at the end of the tunnnel. My brother also had depression since 18, he is now 32 and it affected him that much that he is not able to work since its affected the way the brain works since he's had it for so long. One of the worst things is if depression remains untreated it can develop into severe depression, anxiety and severe paranoia as well as destroy your life and seriously affect others around you, which is pretty much what has happened to my brother. He is free from is now but the phycological? damage left has taken a huge toll and its permanent. Obviously not as bad a taking his life but still very bad. Depression should be one of them things taken very seriously and if any ones going through it you must realise THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL no matter how much there may seem there isnt. MOST importantly TALK about the way you fell and seek as much help as you can. Bottling up will only make things worse. I remember following doctors orders for a while trying everything to make me fell better but nothing made the difference like opening up to a counsellour and chatting for hours did. DONT ever feel you will be a burden to anyone, people have to understand they have family and they will put up with and try help with as much as they can (which in my family's case was a hell of a lot). If these words haved helped even 1 person then I'm glad
