My 1999 festiva has had a leak since I purchased it over 3 years ago. I'm sick of driving with a pool of water under my feet. Would anyone have any idea where the water could be getting in? I've poured water down the vent near the wipers and it comes out near the wheel so it's not that, and the windscreen has been replaced since purchase, with the person who put it in checking for leaks so it's not that either. I'm out of ideas, as is my mechanic friend. Any ideas? I dread driving it in the rain, and with the torrential rain we've had in Sydney the past few days, my car stinks! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that. It isn't coming from underneath as it leaks just parked in the driveway. I will get my friend to have a look though.

Is the car's air conditioning condensation drain blocked? Does it smell like coolant or water? Leaking heater core will smell (and taste) of coolant.

If it is coolant leaking then you are probably up for a new heater core and that could be a big job, as in dashboard out.

It is leaking water, not coolant, and only when it rains. I had a good look today and found a plug thing along the floor that had a hole in it so replaced that. I also noticed that there is a cap missing on the strip at the bottom of the windscreen, but poured water down that and it didn't go inside the car, so I doubt it's that.
Thanks for the help everyone. It isn't that important if I don't find the problem, as I've driven the car for over 3 years like it, and hope to upgrade soon. |
