A good musician, a good innings. But I can’t “like” that he is dead.
Always appreciated the contrast of people like he, leading lives that were notable in their ordinariness off-stage. |

I hear what your saying CB but when you get to a good age and playing with a full deck, putting a like on for me is a acknowledgement of there life not there passing. He was for me one of those special drummers who's style made the band, Keith Moon and John Bonzo Bonham are in the same vein.

Must have been something in the air last night for I watched on Netflix Count Me In......
Even though the Stones wasn't featured much in that doco I was marvelling what music is missing today mind you time moves on but so glad living through the '70's bands were stepping up new levels. Having been a teen through the '70's Stones was part of my life incl other Legends Led Zep/Deep Purple etcetc and man what drummers ! Stones was belting out of my car at full tilt how sweet it was. Moon what a magician with the sticks my King was Bonham but Stones and Watts were epic in their own right, Thanks for the ongoing memories CW, RIP mate I'm sure your with some great fellow muso's.

Who's to say they didn't at some point, i'm fortunate to know a musician, someone that was from that time frame in the UK, he was smart enough to own the rights/royalties to songs he wrote, now he's living the simple life here in West Auckland. From the stories he's told me all those guys know each other, from playing on the club seen back in the early days, when he went back to the UK for his daughters wedding a couple of years ago the wedding band was a who's who of the old rock bands, just getting up and jamming together over the night.

All the greats, the legends are falling off the perch. The marching of time will do that.
Great life, great drummer, even Lars from Metallica rates both Charlie and Phil Rudd as the best of the bunch. RIP Charlie, you did good. Would be a special personality to deal with the Jagger / Keef rollercoaster he found himself on. Everyone talks about Bonham, Moon, Watts, Ginger Baker. The often forgotten Ian Paice is my drummer, in fact a player who maybe most resembles the style of Charlie. |

well said mate, DP were another of my go to back then and still.
Paice was in that doco quit a bit I mentioned. Being I used to travel alot OS pre covid one long flight I spotted a Ian Gillen/DP doco, had it on flat out, I'm sure people around me must have thought I was a bl oody idiot but you know those moments that take you back in time are such a great feeling who cared at the time.

I was astounded to hear when I heard about CW's passing driving to office this morning they were embarking on another tour shortly.
Got to say, be it from 60yrs on, how they manage the energy required for a gig. A drummer must sweat out in a 1/2hr gig like playing 4 football matchs in 1.

Charlie loved cars but didn’t drive.
So he bought them to sit in. Great story in Keef’s book about Charlie punching out Mick. They’re on tour and Mick and Keef go out to the pub and come back to the hotel. Mick can’t hold his liquor and is p*ssed and proceeds to harangue Charlie on the phone. Charlie showers and shaves (big grooming and deportment fan) and suits and boots and heads off to have a chat with Mick. Mick goes down. Keef observes that picking fights with drummers is daft - they have strong arms and excellent timing. |

There was some news a week or more ago that he had a health concern and would not be starting the tour. I guess maybe they thought he would join the band once he had recovered https://www.rollingstone.com/music/m...-tour-1207707/ I will be sure to take a look at that doco you mentioned |

Forgot to mention Nick Ward is in it by the way, in his man cave with one of his F1 Ferrari toys In hindsight having watched that and in view of CW's passing there should be a doco done with Ringo and any of the late 60's into '70's icons still with us before they go for that doco was a great taster of the past but missed alot of the greats.

Hi Guy's
I got home tonight at 6pm from work (25/08/2021) and found out Charlie watts had died. My wife was going to txt me at work but decided to tell me when i got home. I am a big Rolling Stones fan and have seen them twice when they came to Australia. He was a very quit bloke and never said much but i reckon he was the best drummer in the world. He also loved cars, he couldn't drive but had a lot of old car's and would dress up in the year the car's were made and start the motor and sit in the back of the car's. he was married n 1964 and had the same wife for all those's year's and i must say that for all the Rolling Stones fans all over the place Charlie Watts will be missed. There must be hell of a band up there in Heaven now. Charlie Watts, Dusty Hill, John Lennon, Prince, Brian Jones, George Harrison Etc. RIP Charlie Watts Love your work mate. |

When the Stones were touring North America in 1977 the wife of the Canadian prime minister (Margaret Trudeau) was hanging out with the lads and apparently got to know several of them, particularly Ron Woods.
This was commented upon. One comment was from Charlie - ‘I wouldn’t want my wife associating with us’. Indeed ..... |

It's not a put down on Charlie, he was old enough to know better, but he died naturally like old folk should, in bed surrounded by family and friends, they are all the same rock stars and their ilk, the only sad death in my opinion was the assassination of John Lennon 8th Dec 1980, that was on par with King and both Kennedy's. Am sorry if you dont like my opinion, but its an opinion only, am I sorry he died, well I will tell you that after they publish cause of death! Cheers Billy |

Talking about Brian Johnson doing interviews, well just going through my TV guide, just as a courtesy to you folk on this thread!
It's called "Brian Johnson's A Life on the Road" On ABC Ch 22? 30th Aug 1-15 am to 1-35am he meets Joe Walsh, how cool, they drive around in a limo in LA discussing his early life with The James Gang etc, well worth a look! Then from 2-01am to 2-45 am he interviews lead singer of "Free" and also Bad Company!..that should be a ripper eh. You realise it's WA time not East Coast so check your guides for early tomorrow morning folks, let us know on this thread what you think after watching Cheers Billy Last edited by slowsnake; 29-08-2021 at 06:49 PM.
