Default whiny diff...should i be worried?

ive got an ed xr6 with the 3.45LSD. its whined in 4th since i got it. i changed the oil [which was jet black and a bit glinty like candy paint so i assume metal was in there] about 6 months ago. now it shut up for about a week then went back to its normal whine. however over the last month its gotten louder. also it doesnt LSD very much if at all. i can deal without the lsd effect as i dont drag or anything but if its gonna die on me i wanna know before im stopped on the hard shoulder.

Yeh same here, my old single spinner ended up really clunky, so clunky in fact it started dropping patchies like it had a minispool in it. But the noise was unbearable.

how many kays has it done? The diffs are good for nearly 250 000+ kays.

Nylon might stop the noise but it wont prolong it from breaking although it could whine for another 50 000 kays yet with out breaking.

ah don't worry about it, if it breaks it breaks. Theres not much your gonna be able to do short of rebuilding it or replacing it. No point spending money if it still goes. My bet it'll keep going like that for a fair few kays yet. Built ford tough! woo!

Ya could go to a wrecker get an open wheeler, take it home and by some strange happenings have each corner of the spider grears welded solid and then swap it with your diff and have a full time lsd. just watch that rain for some reason it can change the direction you car is facing with that set up.
