Prepared by the Holden Dealer Team, it was driven by legend of Australian motorsport, Harry Firth. Ironically, being the first didn’t mean it would end up getting endowed with racing glory. “This is the car that entered into the Sandown 300 in 1969 to be driven by Spencer Martin and Kevin Bartlett,” the auction description reads. “The car failed to finish after a brake failure led to a fiery crash, but had it not been for the crash, the three other HDT Monaros would not have tasted Bathurst glory a short time later.” © Provided by Bauer Media Pty Ltd The car, dubbed 57D, was then used to homologate changes for other HT Monaro racers, which aided the three Bathurst entries. So it never won a race and was crashed. Even with it being the first factory racer that's got no pedigree.
Were the HK Monaro GTS's not factory backed? |

Harry Firth's HDT worked very closely with GM-H & had things done on the production line that we could only dream about today. It was very much a back-door operation, which was all but a fully fledged factory team. To my knowledge this car was built in-house, at the GM-H service workshop in Fishermans Bend & was ready to go when Harry first arrived after leaving Ford in mid-1969. Harry had to sort out the problems & have 3 cars ready for Bathurst in less than 5 or 6 weeks, where he got 1st & 3rd places. Not a bad effort in my book. Dr Terry |

Who are these Lloyd auction dudes. They have came from obscurity and have been selling lots of top cars.
