Default "To be honest"

Has anyone noticed the frequency of this phrase?

It seems no one can have an opinion unless they state 'to be honest'

What, where you lieing before?

That's my rant. It's said all the time and I'm over it.

Anyone else the same?

I dont like it when people say "spitting image".
Its "splitting image" for the last time, "spitting image" makes no sense.

To be honest I dont believe that I have seen it so often, honestly though it has become as much an Ummm or Errrr that people seem to jam into a sentance, A clear indication that crap is about to flow forthwith....

I hate "of a night", it doesn't make sense damn it!

I think "to be honest" is used as an escape from being seen to have an actual opinion that goes against the crowd, or as minge suggested.

From Wikipedia

The phrase "spitting image" means "perfect likeness or counterpart".[1] It derives from a British slang expression dating back to at least 1859 as a phrase. The roots of this expression can be traced through British history as far back as the Middle Ages [2] and is shared with the French "C'est son père tout craché" (or "C'est le portrait craché de son père") or "He is his father's spit and image".

I'm sure we've had a thread on it before, but to be honest i cant stand the old 'i dont mean to be rude..but' line.
My neighbour says it every time someone has a idea and she thinks she knows better.
She's a harmless woman but sometimes i feel like saying 'you are bloody rude and i will have an opinion' goddammit!!

My pet hate is people you don't even know greeting you with: "How are you?" WTF? I don't even know you. A simple polite Hello or Hi would do. Do you really care how I am?

I say, "hows it goin" and "cheers" all the time.

When I say "hows it goin" to somebody I walk past at work, they alsways reply, "not bad, yourself?" So you have to stop and chat. They don't realise its just a greeting.

I walk into that one all the time.
