well.. some PEOPLE are saying if you advance your timing (not like so its 30 degree's or something but just a little from standard??) you would use less fuel because the engine isn't struggling as much etc, when you're just driving normal or something... who believes this is true ??
:eclipsee_ i want to know .. because mine is at standard and i'm using alot of fuel and drive normal, i had like half a tank yesterday, and now i have nothing. i've hardly been driving ! so will it help if i advance it a little bit? |

Generally speaking the stock timing is conservative. So yes it would help. I would advance initially by say 4 degrees and then start advancing in 2 degree increments until engine just pings under load. Then back off 2 degrees. Make sure you do all this in the worst possible conditions for pinging (ie when pinging would most likely occur). Do it on a HOT day with the lowest grade of fuel you would ever use.
If you did all this on a cold day with 100RON fuel your settings would be too aggressive for normal day to day conditions and you will destroy your engine. |

Well, advancing the timing properly (10 degrees is said to be the optimum general setting for most applications), will no doubt increase fuel economy and increase response (More BANG for BUCK) From my experiance. However, it is difficult to tell where 10 degrees is on your car (EA-EL) as they do not have timing marks, except for TDC.

How do you advance the timing in our cars guys?? Is it just a rotation of the rotorcap?? How much is just right cos i am hoping it is part of my fuel issue.. i only get 300kms to a full tank with no stereo in the car..

No the car uses the fuel.. the stereo just weighs the car down.. its like carrying a full car of fat mates plus towing a trailer with enough food to fee them for a year.. LOL..

atm after calder and advancing the timing , it went from 12.6L to 12.7L per 100k, thats excellent considering the 1/4 mile time improvement i got !!

yeah thats not bad i get 12.5 average per 100k or w/ever local driving. i've had it down to 8l p/100k freeway driving but i still use too much fuel in my opinion :(
