Hi all anyone who owns a turbo i am asking is yours registered and insured ? if so do you have an engeneers certificate/epa report ect.
Reason i ask is i have nearly finished my turbo conversion and would like to know what exactly i need to do to be covered by insurance and what people have done. As the car is reg'd i can just do it and drive it but id like the thing to be legit and insurable when talking to insurance places they say the car must be roadworthy and reg'd i asume just bolting the turbo on wont be roadworthy ? Any help and advice on how to make my rig legit would be fantastic prices contact ect aswell if you have any. Thanks in advance for any help. |

Good luck mate.
You will need to get the car engineered. To do this pretty much all of the engineers in Vic will ask that you go through and pass an ADR 27 test to prove that you meet emissions. This test can be held by 3? places in Vic and is fairly expensive. Approx $2K. After you pass that you can take it to an engineer and they will go over the car and let you know what else you can fix before passing it and giving you a certificate. Call a few engineers and ask around and they will tell you what you need to know. I think VIPAC, ford and toyota are the ones that have the ADR 27 testing lab. EFfalcon and Rmyers have looked into this as well and found Dynomotive to be extremely helpful. Maybe give them a call. I had to sell my Turbo AU XR6 because I couldnt get it engineered after spending hours and hours on the phone trying to get it done. I didnt want to risk spending $2K on a test only to fail. I have since bought an AIT EA falcon which was sold from a ford dealer as a turbo car. At least when I get defected now I can still put it back to stock and have 185rwkw and be legal.

Yea ive read all these threads on getting it done i know i will pass emissions thats not the issue i was just wondering mainly if it was totaly necisary to get the emisions done to get the engineers,
But i have noticed alot going around without engeneers im just not willing to take the risk of no insurance cover. |

Ahh okay, I rang everyone in the vicroads register except for maybe 2 or 3 and all wanted the test to be done.

hey tristan yours has the snort kit on it yea ? i think i chat to you on msn sometimes.
Anyway the only thing that worried me is that just cars state that the car is insured with all the mods as long as its regestered and roadworthy, If i am right and i quiet often arnt i would asume this means to be roadworthy it must be engeneered. Not having a go but if you did stack would they pay you or pull some bull and not pay out ? |

in vic to get a legit engineers you need to pass the emmisions test. I don't think theres anyway pass it unless you're using a kit thats arleady emmisions aproved.
the whole insurance thing seems to be WAY open to interpretation. Loads of people have their turbo e-series insured, unengineered and the insurance co say its 'ok' but none of them have had to claim so who knows what'll happen at that time.

Just cars told me that the car had to be RWC according to your particular states laws ie Vicroads approved. If a regular RWC wont pass a car because the car needs an engineers certificate which it would then it isnt RWC. I questioned a few insurance companies trying to insure my AU and they all said the same thing. Minus Shannons who will insure anything provided you are 25 or over.
3rd party FTW. They wont inspect your car as they dont give a hoot about it after an accident as they dont have to fix it. You take the car away from the scene, make a claim and they will contact the person who you crashed into and take care of their problems only.

Shannons would insure my AU with all the mods but only if I was 25 years or over. I tried getting insurance with a place called Modified car insurance or something similar. They said my car was too modified! lol

I'm with Shannons. They even insured my turbo in case it was ever damaged.
It's also way cheaper than my BA XR6T to insure full comp. - John |

The ADR is actually ADR 32 if I'm correct not ADR 27. In NSW the emission testing is actually free.

ADR 32 is relevant to seat belts in heavy vehicles. ADR 26 and 27 are emission controls. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/vrpdf...e/VSI%2022.pdf

I had insurance with Shannons since I was 22.
Dont ring their 13XXXX number, it just goes to a call centre where they just give you the company line. If you go into one of their shop fronts and semm like a reasonable person and the car looks good, they'll probably insure you. They did in my case anyway, and I know a friend who was even younger who got insurance with them.
