Cops sending defects after being pulled up?

So im on p plates and got pulled over and the cop found that the wheels were 1 inch to big, the tyres on the back were streched, popped the bonnet and saw extractors and CAI. However he did not issue me anything but he went back to his car and said he has to get details and I have heard they said letters in the mail to follow it up and just wondering if its true that they do send letters?? thanks.

Most likely, a few years back my daughters car got checked by police at her work while car was parked & a week later had letter from EPA for exhaust check.

Don't be surprised if you do here from the police.

If it was HWY Patrol, I'm guessing you're screwed buddy :P they never give up on anything. I don't think extractors and CAI would be illegal as such unless you are a P plater, the only thing I could think of was the extractors not having a heatshield.

i am a p plater, Was a unmarked landcruiser prado, they are blitzing my town atm, extractors dont have a shield didn't know they needed one. The cars in mums names and its her car ;)

If its not HWY Patrol I'd say you have a better chance hwy patrol in vic are horrid, i haven't been pulled over yet but i'm pretty sure as a p plater you're not really allowed any mods? Who knows just wait and see might be just a fix the issue report back kinda thing.

No performance mods I believe but this is the first time my cars been looked usually it's Bretho and drug checks, and I know people that have been done for exhaust being a performance enhancement and others just for loudness

If it's Mums car I cant see a problem, unless it was overly loud.

P plater or not if the mod is legal then no problems.

how loud is the exhaust ? im thinking that might be another possible issue, loud exhaust and P plates = a constable magnet !

Well the cars in mums name so technically it's not my car and the mods are legal

You were driving it? Yes? You are responsible to ensure you comply with the laws. It's the same if Mum's car was a GT RSpec, you can't drive it.

Yes I'm aware of that but can they really do for extractors seeing how it's not my car? I can understand if it's turbo or an 8

This, doesn't matter if its "Mum's car" you're still driving it.

Put it this way, you got let off of a potential $1100 fine for driving modified vehicle for performance on P plates.

Which is the reason why my Falcon has factory 15" wheels and a custom heat shield over Pacemaker 4499s, never mind the CMS Stage 3 head and 2a cam, you cant see that, all it was done on my Ps and I made sure everything was covered up so mr policeman couldn't tell.

Fly under the radar dude, ditch the ****y wheels with stretched tyres, cover up the extractors and if its scraping on the ground raise it back up to something respectable.

You've already won half the war when you can roll by cops without being pulled over, you win the other half if they pop the bonnet and they can't pick anything modified lol.

FYI the police don't have to find anything wrong with your car to give you a defect notice.

As the police are not mechanical engineers, they are not qualification to say weather any car is "legal" or not.

What they can do is "suspect" your car is not legal/roadworthy, and insist you take your car to someone who is qualified to inspect it.

As Big Damo is alluding to, it's best not to be noticed. Although I used to think "P" plates stood for "P"ick me up.

Ahhh I think you missed my point...... It makes no difference whose car it is.... You can not drive a car that does not fall into the list approved for P players.

I got pulled over dozens of times on my p's on my stock BF sedan....having a damn SA license was hard to explain in vic that p2 required no P plate, countless times the cop thought it was fake....I hate my exhaust for its noise alone, I can't plant it and speed unnoticed like I used to haha
