Default Polishing

dont know if this has already been covered but how do you go about polishing the top part of the manifold on the EF 4.0. i want to give the engine bay a bit of a bling, and at the moment having made up a 3" mandrell bend intake pipe to get rid of the plastic one, which will end up being chrome plated. any tips or tricks on polishing manifold and other pieces would be appreciative.

start with your dremmel or die grinder removing any casting marks
Then sand all the little bumps out so it is nice and flat
The progress thru the paper 180- 2000 grit
once you have it a smooth as possible the idea is to remove the scratches the course paper leaves behind
Once you have it looking very matt, with no scratches or sanding marks a product like autosol will bring up the shine
You can get special mops that you can adapt to fix onto a drill to make the buffing process faster

yeah not the most fun thing to do but it looks good if you get it right.

i just used a pnuematic linisher to take all the cast marks out, then used the bench grinder with a buff wheel on it. this with a bit of rouge and it brings it up nice. i got a pic on here somwhere of me alternator.
