Default Election 2007

Ok lets keep this clean and simple. I appreciate that we all have differing opinions, and if any crap gets in here maybe the mods can delete it. There is to be no arguments etc etc. I know its a touchy topic but surely we are mature enough to handle a simple discussion about it. So please post your thoughts on the result so far.

We shall see if the same thing happens every time the reds are in power:

Budget deficits and sub 10% interest rates.

Maybe it will be different this time around ? though improving from a highly experienced government who brought the greatest prosperity Australia has ever seen with a government of political recruits may prove difficult.

All sounds good.... Until IR laws come into it. Building an economic powerhouse on workforce blood is a very unstable political base.

it seems to me that Liberals lost the election because of John Howard, he should have stood down some years ago, he appeared to be stagnant and not in touch with the electorate, he also did too many things to irritate voters, some of the porkies he told people would never forgive him for imo, union bashing and then the work place laws you can`t keep making enemies and expect a good outcome, add to that the lack of idea`s during the water crisis it was a forgone conclusion imo

some might argue that the reason the economy is as it is was the result of decisions taken to make australia a market economy in the Hawke Keating years, the world economy has been booming along as well, and in my book there are 2 economie`s, one is the buisness economy and the the second is the private economy the private has a higher debt than ever before in Australia`s history, Rudd may have inherited a sinking ship only time will tell.

Atleast when interest rates were high .. Inflation was high also..
Btw I had a mortgage back then and I don't remember paying anymore than 10%...
Inflation maybe in W.A ? But there's not too much here on the eastern states..

I heard them say something about there being no states run by Liberal. As long as any party doesn't have the majority in both houses it will ensure there's still a democracy....... well.. so to speak.

At the end of the day, I'll still be paying $1.39+ for 98 octane and rising, $40+ for a slab of beer and rising.... Just glad I don't smoke any longer.

Maybe I am seeing this as a West Aussie in a resources boom but,

labour shortages, return to stronger union influence and return to collective bargaining is not a good recipe in current Australian economy.

Small business is really going to suffer now.

Watch over the next 6 months as AWA's are discarded and tradespeople drop jobs like hot potatoes looking for $60+ dollars/hour on double time.

And people thought housing was unaffordable until now.

Hmm, interesting everyone's forgotten the enormous interest rates of old. The anti-Liberal adds Labour has been peddaling (as distinctly opposed to anything pro-Labour) claiming John Howard broke an election promise by having 6 interest rate rises since he came into power - how long ago?

6 rises - of one-quarter-of-a-percent each, thus a total of 1.5% increase over the term, thus the promise "I'll keep interest rates at record lows" HAS been upheld.

Workchoices? Touchy subject - I could be unemployed and bumming around, pricks for employers paying minimum wage and making things REALLY hard without actually dismissing anyone, 'forcing' people to leave, etc. etc., OR NOW - where I negotiate my own damn salary, the people around me are there because they choose to be, and they aren't forced into strike action because some union decides to complain, shall I go on?

I am better off. Everyone I know is better off. Those stupid adds - all negative about the other guy, none of them actually positive about their own policies, give me the willeys and I still can't believe morons fell for it.

Change can be good, but I now cannot buy my first house. Because, first home buyers under Labour, loose. AWA employees like myself, who work and are paid much like a contractor, will now be "employees" confirming to the mold with no rights once again, just like a few years ago. Under labour, all my colleagues and just about everyone I know on their own negotiated AWA's, will loose - as personal powers of negotiation are lossed.

Costello, you know, I reckon he was up to the task. And I'd CERTAINLY rather see Downer and Costello around the place over Crean and Swan - two smarmie pedo wierdos, like Rudd. So - telly looks worse, billboards look worse, papers have wierdos on them, I can't buy a house with any confidence or government support, and I my pay will probably halve. Thanks Australia.
