Angry What The Hell Is Going On???

Theres some weird shite going on in my Fairmont and it's got me annoyed and confused.

The transmission seems to be slipping or something but it only seems to do it when you stop and then plant your foot. If your driving along and you plant your foot it will kick back nicely, rev hard and change through the gears smoothly but if you stop at an intersection and plant your foot it will stutter for a few seconds accelerating slowly before finally going normal and powering along.

It does the same thing with traction control off and it does the same thing if you start in first gear and then plant it and if you put it in reverse and then plant it.

And heres the weird thing standing outside the car and watching it accelerate it sounds like it's missing and the exaust makes an awful 2 stroke sing brrr brrr non-smooth type sound.

But heres where it gets weird, the car still idles perfectly and if you take off easy it doesn't do it but if you put her in neutral and rev it makes the awful sound but looking at the engine bay the sound isn't coming from the engine it's coming from underneath the car under the drivers seat.

Torque converter maybe???

9.5 seconds to 100kays??? Not happy Jan!

9.5 seconds..... isn't that like, normal?

I'd be checking your leads/packs before you start thinking about the auto. It sounds like you are describing a miss/lack of power moreso than a slipping auto.

If the auto was slipping you'd know about it :P

It does it when traction control is off.......

I thought it could be the transmission because the fluid is cactus.

How do I know if it's the cat?

you'll hear it rattle under acceleration, if bits are broken and block the flow it will restrict the reving as well

If the trans fluid is cactus, then change it ASAP.

I think it might be the Cat it seems to do struggle when you put it in neutral and stick your boot in but it doesnt do it if you ease the throttle on.

I'm going to get the trans flushed anyway cos it's due for it.

She has 135,000 kays and I bet my left nut the dodgy Ford dealers never changed it.
