Default To shim or not to shim??

Gday,

Rebuilding my mk2 front calipers. About to place my new pads in which are EBC greens. The greens came with some adhesive shims that you stick straight onto the back of the pad.

My question: Once the adhesive shims are on, do i still need to retain the original metal shims or are they not necessary? Perhaps they assist with applying uniform pressure to the pad. Thirty years has made the originals a bit distorted and the coating has mostly peeled off.

Here is a link to a photo. Old shims on bottom. New pad and adhesive shim on top. Cheers.

Use the 3m shims mate and throw the original metal ones under the bench, i had a set of red stuff on my P250, the packing box had been opened and there was no shims in there so i did not know that they existed.

The pad squeal was SHOCKING ( like a old Melbourne Tram ) with out the shims, long story short i complained and gave me a set of shims, fitted them and all fixed.

Cheers Mick.
