Default Leaky Water Pump

I have just replaced the water pump on the EB2 with a brand new one. After 20km of driving, water is pouring out of the small hole at the base of the new water pump. What is this hole ? What is it for ? Water exits when the motor is on and off.

The gasket/seal is fine.

Can this be easily fixed - or does the pump require replacement AGAIN ?

The pump is a Taipan brand, which I bought on Ebay.

There is a seal there that wears out before the impellors do. It tells you to change the water pump. You have bought a dodgy one and will need to replace it asap. Bummer.....

the hole is there to let the water out when the seal wears out, before it gets to the bearing and kills the bearing...sounds like you got a munted pump, or you did the belt up too tight and killed the bearing (not likely though as the alternator usually gives out first)
