Default R18+ gaming classification

A step in the right direction to bring adult games on par with the adult classified films.

Definately a step in the right direction. Been waiting years for something to happen with the ratings on video games. Hopefully something good comes out of it and us avid Adult gamers get what we want!

Differently in right direction instead of all the games getting banned just because stupid Australia doesn't have a r18 rating on the games yet,

That's what I'm afraid of, getting all our hopes up only to have this clown shatter them.

You can do that or simply fill out the submission form (a questionnaire).
I have done so and just emailed it off.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME TRUE!

Argh...sick of the view that gaming is for kiddies.
Like a film, gaming is a form of art that is interactive.

There is more quality in gaming nowadays than the 'music' I have to listen to on the radio at work. Nova sucks.

All you do is download a version of the banned game from overseas. So all that banning games most other countries do not is depriving sales to retailers here. The new Alien vs Predator game apparently was banned. Now they have a movie that it is based on that would have similar levels of violence, yet that is OK in film classifications

Why do they even have to discuss this, what more do you need to discuss? It's a clear solution to a known problem :

Oh well hopefully this will actually lead somewhere.

No R18+ for games just hurts the Aussie retailers. Any game that is banned I buy from overseas, plus when people go to these overseas sites they will find it is cheaper than aus incl postage and they will continue to buy from there. I buy alot of stuff overseas due to the fact is almost 1/2 price, especially with our current $$$, but big release games that I am really wanting on release I still shell out the $100+ for here in aus. Every time you ban a game I am anticipating my money goes to hong kong.

Uncensored versions of games like Left For Dead II (they removed the blood), which everyone has been getting around by buying it from Steam with an account registered in the USA.

nah what they do is, buy it directly from the UK website instead of buying it through the steam client. I'm all for 18+ games it getting pretty bad the amount of games being refused classification over the last few months.

One thing we could access are dating sims.

These are interactive story games that typically feature relationships between adult people that sometimes include intimate scenes. There are games for females and games for males, many titles are available and they sell thousands and thousands in every other country of the world. Some include extreme scenes, but most are warm-hearted stories that imbue positive attitudes and sympathy, nearly all are morally instructive.

we are so backward.. most people don't even know this genre of computer game exists... or at best have a fantasy idea of what it may consist of.

I can't imagine why you would want to play a game like that.

Things that get banned are mostly violence and graphic scenes from games, or disclaimers pop up asking if you want to continue through them like in COD:MW2.

As well as forcing companies to edit their software to accomodate Australia and it's silly no-R18+ classifications. It costs the companies themselves from here and overseas as well as retailers in Australia a lot of money just because there is no R-rating.

If gamers can't get what they want they just buy it overseas or download it. Why does the government give them/us more reason to do this

Hi all, just heard on JJJ that all 7 states have agreed to the classification, however one attorney general was not present to vote. Might finally see some progress soon

Under the proposed guidelines, games containing high-level violence will be restricted to adults, while games containing extreme violence will continue to be refused classification and banned from sale altogether.

The agreement has won the cautious support of the Australian Christian Lobby, which criticised the previous draft guidelines.

The lobby's Rob Ward does not want a barrage of extreme games coming into Australia, but he has welcomed the new agreement.

"What this appears, and again depending on the details, is that there'll be no loosening and no increase in the number and types of games that will be available, but rather a classification change," he said.

Sounds like a classification change and nothing more. MA15 will be R18+ and the real R18+ games will still be banned.

Still, either way didn't stop me getting Mortal Kombat on the 360.

Fine with me, if you want to refuse games I could buy here, in Australia, through Australian retailers.... I'll just take my business overseas...
