Default Air Snorkel EB/ED

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has used the "larger" Air Snorkel off the ute from the time {XH??} on their EB/ED 6cyl? If so were there any gains?

Cheers

Sure a few people have fitted XG snorkels. XH would be same as ef/l snorkel i think.

Fairly limited in the height of the snorkel. Know now that th AU tickford snorkel prevents the bonnet from being closed on my ED.

Ive got a XH Snorkle on my car.

didnt make a HUGE difference, intake was louder when its cold :P
I did however notice my economy became better but i did go from the EA one to the XH one.

It's about $30, from your local Ford Spares.

The XG snorkle is about $38.
XH longreach was $44 and looks to be the same part as the ELGT/Fairlane by Tickford snorkle
AU XR8 is $34
These prices were retail from my local Ford dealer.

I just picked up a XH snorkel from Rex Gorrel Ford (Geelong) for $45, I thought I over paid a little, but I wanted it. here are some pics of before and after, the XH snorkel just looks so much better!

To my shock I found that the previous owner has decided to make an extra intake in the snorkel, right beside the box (see picture).
Would this affect the cars performance in that it's not sucking the cold air in from the front of the car, and mainly sucking the hot air from the engine?

you can run them with the airbox lid off, you wont notice much difference, you get more noise with it off though which sounds cool

Why does the EA one have that bulge anyway?

I thought it was like a large chamber to aid airlfow somehow at first but when I took my snorkel off and looked down it the pipe just goes straight through, its hardly for looks is it?

Don't waste your time kyro_02, they are from A1 Exhaust and they are $280 from memory. They are made from scratch with fibre glass. Way overpriced I think.

unless your pod is properly sealed it will get too much hot engine bay air.

yes, i agree they are over priced, but effective.

I'm planning to get an XH snorkel in a couple of weeks, particularily since my standard crappy EA one has gone white! I'll be going into Ford to buy a throttle cable and a cruise control cable, so I'll try to get the snorkel then.

can anyone explain why this is illegal? also why are pod filters illegal? they're only a filter after all!!

i was wanting to fit a 3" pipe from the air box down to the front air dam for direct air flow. i need to know how this is illegal and if it'll really matter!!

cheers
braden
