hey, well time has come when i'm thinking about selling my computer ... I need money to start paying my depts off. And to just have a little extra $$$ in my pocket for when I need it, so at the moment i'm just wondering what you people think my computer is worth.. I am after serious answers.
--- I have all receipts for the computer purchase & receipts for stuff that was bought after buying the PC. The only receipt I can't find at the moment is the TV Tuner card... but I'm 100% sure I got the tuner card for $50. The computer is about 3-4 months old. All receipts total at $2210 inc. the $50 tuner card which I can't find receipt for at the moment. Even though i've given you the purchase price (inc. all after market purchases) want to know what it would be worth currently, cause prices drop a lot... Also, I have all boxes for the parts, like video card boxes, sound cards, dvd burner box, tv tuner etc etc.. Quote:

Mate, as with all computers, they're worth about 50% after the first month or two.
25% After a year. 10% After 2 years. That's just based on my experience, I could be proven wrong here though. Pretty sure depreciation for Tax purposes works along similar lines. Cheers,

did you build this yourself. If you built it you probably could get a bit more for it as everybody else has to buy it lock stock and barrel.

I selling mine which is roughly the same and am only asking $700 includes computer table and chair. I think you would be better off seperating and selling seperate parts on ebay..
Good luck. |

not really, what its worth IS what someone is willing to pay for it.

computers are worse than cars for re-sale value I'm afraid! Although I do wish you luck in paying off your debts.

Best to watch eBay , Might give you some Idea , but prices do drop "drastically", same as all electronic equipment , the problem is technology is moving so fast . A mate imports computer parts & software and he air-freights things in because if it's shipped in by the time it got here , it would be obsolete.
I used to own a music shop and sold Casio Keyboards , by the time I got the latest model from the warehouse in Sydney, Japan had released a new model that did more and was cheaper. I'd have to discount the one on the floor 30 - 50 % just to move it. Also I've just bought 4 Compaq computers off eBay . Pentium 4 1.7ghz 40G H/drive , latest CD burner , 512 meg Ram , 15" monitor , K/Board & mouse , Modem , XP Pro licenced for $185 each with 30 day warranty . I know these are a lot smaller than yours , but thats less than I could buy the H/Drive & CD burner & Ram. So it's very hard to quote a price - "stewiefishing" probably has the best Idea , sell the parts seperately. Sorry I couldn't give you better news , but Good Luck , I hope you don't lose too much

thanks for your replies
well my brother bought it from a computer joint ... he could of easily bought computer parts to build up a system ... we built every other computer from case to full heaps of times . i swapped my laptop for this computer cause my brother wanted a laptop and all ... after a week when he got it he spent money on getting a new cpu fan for it, power station - power supply, new harddrive (which i'm using until whenever.. which won't come with the PC - but I have another one in this computer so its all sweet, i think it's only 80GB sata though.) also i forgot to add it has 1GB Ram (2x 512DDR400) - motherboard has 2 more slots for ram sticks. |

Nothing depreciates faster than a PC. Sadly most people wont touch a second hand computer, me included. Too much possibility of some thing going belly up and no warranty to fall back on. Try ebay.

I'd be looking at selling something else to settle my debts, PC just aren't worth selling unfortunately, you'll just end up kicking yourself further down the track

CPU: 3500+ AMD 64bit
$299 MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte K8 Triton NForce 4 SLI / PCI-Express / Dual Channel DDR 400 if it's a K8NXP-SLI $245 if K8N Pro-SLI $148 VIDEO CARDS: 2x Bridged Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB / Turbo Force SLI PCI Express / 8-Pipeline - DVI-I - HDTV - 128bit 2x $215 MONITOR: 17" LCD Flatron L1717S LG can't get a price for that from my supplier, but 17" LG 1750SQ-SN $299 SOUND CARD: Sound Blaster Audigy LS 5.1 can't get a price for that from my supplier, but Creative Audigy 4 $$109 POWER SUPPLY: Power Station Thermaltake / 520W ATX 12V 2.0 $175 CPU FAN: Thermal take (massive heat sink + fan) - can't remember name!! probably about $70 for one of those stupidly big ones WIRELESS: D-Link G54MBPS PCI Card D-Link DWL-G510 PCI wireless $37 CD: LITEON 16x DVD+R / +RW Drive / 8.5GB Capacity / DVD+R DL 8X - DVD-R DL 4X $57 HDD: <i'll confirm soon> TVC CARD: Winfast TV2000XP Expert + remote $69 CASE FANS: 3 multi coloured fans 3x $10 each (and overkill really, not needed and a waste of power, one would do) So without knowing the HDD details, brand new that so far would come to either $1723 or $1820, still missing keyboard, mouse, case, hard disk, RAM, etc.

Try advertising on the local supermarket noticeboard, its free. Put on a fair price and see what happens. If you get adverse reaction drop the price or start a dutch auction and drop the price $100 a week but post it on more than one noticeboard. But as has been said computers resales drop faster than Hindenberg. Good luck.

Don't worry. You could still get two grand for this unit. Price drop isn't that dramatic. If you never get the right price for it as a whole unit, sell everything individually on ebay. It's not even six months old so it ain't that bad.
