is it possible? if so how much would would it cost approx?

Cheaper to just buy a BA XR6 now.

Basically everythings different including the computer and looms. It can be done but it would be a massive cost.

oh ok, because my mate replaced his engine with the BA one. He cant get the smile of his face when he drives, as the AU is alot lighter than the BA and the handling of the car. Guess next thing to do is buy a new car then for me.

I'd be curious to see pictures of that.... and know how he got the ECU to work. EEC V cant run twin cams as far as I know

At the price of BA's now days its easier to buy a BA & modify it.
I personally have not seen a AU fitted with a BA N/A six fitted.
He would of been better to spend the money on a turbo or S/Charger for the cost & have more power than a BA 6l mtr.

Easy to say on the internet MUCH harder to do in real life.

Yes I have only "heard" of one AU with a BA XR6T engine in it.

Lots of heartache, money and time to get it right too I believe.

Did your mate's uncle do it for him? :

As has been said, its far cheaper and less hassle to just buy a BA. There is nothing wrong with a looked after AU engine, they have a lot of potential in both N/A and hairdryer form. Just because the BA is the latest doesnt mean its the greatest.

Seen that car in a car mag.

But not as yet seen a AU only posters talking about them fitted with the gas guzzling BA mtrs.

With drive by & other hi tech the cost would be well over capitalising as there is a series1 AU fairmont down the road from me for sale at $8,900 with 12 months reg & roadworthy. A car that was in the 40 grand bracket 6 years ago. So in a couple of years the BA's will go the same way.
A fairmont or XT BA will get under the 15 grand bracket.

N/A BA I6... not worth it at all.

Turbo version. Different story: The engine has been designed specifically for forced induction and therefore would be a perfect canvas for future modification. And when people say that the money is the major drawback... You are paying for uniqueness and personality. Money shouldnt matter.

If they can do it to an EF.... They can do it to an AU.

It is a mod you will start to see more and more of.. Remember the Barra 182 is now nearly 3 years old and the price for Stat Write off's at the auctions are almost comical compared to what wreckers are charging for parts.. For example a destroyed rear end XT went thru the auctions the other day for $3200. THe car was a mess but from the front doors forward it was unmarked.. 68k on the odo..

If i was in the market for repowering an AU I'd seriously considered purchasing a donor BA wreck to transplant into an AU. The dash bolts 'straight' in, there is most of your wiring issues solved without any cutting then it is a 'simple' case of swapping mechanical components over.

would you all belive me if i told yous i know a bloke who just put a LS1 & T56 into an E30 318i? Dont be a disbeliver yet! Have trust in Syk0AU1's mates story.

The N/A BA 6's are just as useful as a bag of poo for AU's I reckon.

They are mainly confined to older cars as I've seen a 318 V8 Chrysler mtr fitted to a EH with a Jag rear end at the hot rod show in the late seventies.

At the Summernats there are great engineering feats of conversions.

But why would anyone put a N/A BA 6 mtr ( not Turbo) in the AU when a well modified turbo'd AU 6 mtr can give great performance.

So if an XT is fetching $4k written off, then it is most probable that a Turbo would be perhaps $7-8 in the same position?

I guess something around that money, but simply by volume the XT's are everywhere hence why they fetch alot less.. if a T came thru you'd have a bidding war driving the price up imho

Yeah definitely, wrecked T's are scarce and when they come up there are always a lot of people after them.
But assuming you spent $10k on a wrecked T, theres about another $2-3k minimum to get it all going. Whereas if you do it to an existing in-car AU engine you have $10k to play with and youll get a great setup.

True B2TF but if you can afford to hold the bag so to speak you'd re-coupe a substantial whack of your initial outlay. Bonnet, guards, doors, trans, headlights, maybe diff, IRS, seats, wheels etc would all fetch a decent crust on the parts market.
