Default Lots of RS's on Carsales

I was just having a browse of carsales.com.au and there is 81 RS's for sale. I read recently that Ford had sold about 300 of the 315 imported. Given the number still for sale through the dealers then I think they aren't selling as well as they say. I think they need to do an end of year runout sale - say around 45K - to clear them out !

The local Ford dealer in my town never gets anything special. Usually lucky to get an XR8 but at the moment they have a Focus RS same with a town close by, they have an RS as well.

They might be selling slowly, because only two are actually being sold for the Ford recommended price (and one of those has on-road charges on top of that). There's one pirate in my part of the world wanting nearly 80k!

IF they were priced competitively, they would have sold.
At the end of the day, its still a very expensive Focus.

What a shame, such a great car spoilt by unrealistic pricing.

Yeah it is a truly great bit of kit, but when you can get a G6ET or a supercharged GS for less coin you know it's going to have trouble moving.

When Ford say they've sold 300 of them, that includes selling them to the dealers. So it's up to the dealerships to move them. Some priced them at the RRP, some decided to be ridiculous and go for the unsuspecting goose willing to pay 70-80 grand. Those who did go for RRP sold them like hotcakes.

Some of these dealers are kidding themselves aren't they.

There is one on there with 1700k's and they still want 63k for it drive away.

They are not worth the 30k premium on top of the XR5.

At 45k, I would have considered one.
Not worth it to sell the XR5 and buy one of these.

All dealers got some, there were dealers who gave or swapped theirs for other vehicles becuase its not a big rural or top end seller.
Then there are the dealers who wanted to sell above retail price.
I know a dealer has sold 5 and there original allocation was 2.

Short answer is yes, just the same as a full spec f6 is worth the coin over the xr6t.

Great car, but I too would struggle to pay over $50k for the thrill.

Here are the sales figures for the RS that I posted back in the November Car Sales thread. So they have sold about half of them.

Quote:
Here are the Focus RS figures so far. I guess them being 'sold out' was sold out to the dealers. However it seems Ford is doing well in the hot hatch market.

November 2010 and YTD.
Ford Focus RS - 41 - 167

And just for comparison.
Volkswagen Golf GTI 18 - 2,700
Ford Focus XR5 128 - 1,547
Subaru Impreza WRX 154 - 1,537
Mazda Mazda3 MPS - 41 - 543
Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart - 34 - 391
Honda Civic Type R - 5 - 173

Volkswagen Golf R/R32 - 6 - 277
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution - 12 - 232
Ford Focus RS - 41 - 167
Subaru Impreza WRX STI - 7 - 133

Oh here we go again.
My dealer had 2 and sold them both they didnt sit around, sure they arent worth 30k~ more then an XR5, buying an RS is purely and emotional choice as is buying a GT et al.
In a country like Aus is would be hard to convince a RWD buyer that the RS has performance. If these were bought into OZ when they were released it might have been a different story as we would have more numbers of them. The XR5 is still selling well though

I saw one up close at President Ford the other day. Must admit there were some parts I didn't like.

Finish was rather poor, the piano black spoiler and diffuser look really cheap, and it sits very high.

Dealer tried to tell me that it needs to sit that high because it's a rally car (RS) and it needs it for cooling !!!!

Ohh.... and no touching and no test drives for anyone!!! You want it you buy it

I have to agree with the pricing comments. At the RRP they were pretty reasonable - $59,990 but add on roads = $62-64k which puts it in a price bracket where people have a lot of choice.

I'm hoping they have a few sitting around still next year and I can pick one up for closer to $55k

I wonder how long it will be till they start to drop. With at least 81 available, it would indicate they are still priced too high?

Saw my first one on the street today. Saw the rear spoiler first (hard to miss) assumed it was just bolted onto a xr5, but there it was in frozen white, parked in Surry Hills.. very very nice!

How can no cruise turn people off a car like this. Must not be keen on one then.

Default no cruise

I do nearly 30,000k's a year mainly between Sydney and South Coast, two trips to Melbourne and one to Gold Coast just handy for the freeways and speed camera's.
No i agree a very nice car but i wonder how confortable those recaros are after 3 hours of driving.
I did love that the rear seats fold down great for my 20month red and white border collie who travels with us.
I jumped in a golf r and gti (addidas edition) the next day more confortable seats and luxury stuff.
I would still go the ford rs .
You are right though my 1991 gt4 groupa rallye has no cruise (must be a rallye thing)
I wonder if its worth a white one with the blue stripes like the xr5 turbo or white stripes on the blue.
Funny thing next morning i saw a blue rs in Botany near Kelloggs very dirty needed a good wash.(I mentioned to the financial family controller as this could be a sign)
Still no sign

Regards,
Simon

After a trip back east from Adelaide to Canberra, all I can say is.

DAMN I Wish I had Cruise.

The angle of the seat on throttle gives you a pain in the right leg. Very hard to keep it at thelimit. You are up and down like a yo yo.

Got pulled up for doing 119 in a 110 zone. Asked why my speed was fluctuating and I said no cruise. Police man looked stunned.

Policeman at Breatho in Balranald was impressed by car. He thought they only came in EO. I said wait until you see the green two door.

i'm with dallas, cruise control should not be a deal breaker when talking about an RS. btw... those recaro seats are awesome. i'm a big guy and quite simply, they're the best car seat i've sat my **** on!!

i recently had the pleasure of driving an RS on a cruise. all i can say to those critical of the price is once you have a drive of one, you'll see it is worth it if you have the money.
